Donald Watson was a British animal rights activist, a woodworker, a conscientious objector, a pacifist, a teacher, a co-creator of the word "vegan" (together with his wife), and a co-founder of The Vegan Society (together with his wife and their friends Elsie Shrigley, G. A. Henderson and his wife Fay K. Henderson in November 1944).
He was born in Mexborough, Yorkshire, England. Donald Watson became a vegan in 1941. He married Dorothy Mary Watson (nee Morgan) in 1946. He was an agnostic and he lived 95 years. The Watsons are buried at Crosthwaite Parish Church in Great Crosthwaite, Keswick, Cumbria, England.
