Sakura Kasugano review

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 23 May 2022 04:15

If you lived through the nineties, you might have been slightly aware of Sakura-mania. With her spirited determination and awkward teenager-isms, this young contender made her mark in Street Fighter Alpha 2. From then on, she's been in most of Capcom's Vs. titles, multiple chibi-themed spin-offs, and even a self-titled manga series (Sakura Ganbaru!)! Furthermore, she also appears in another Capcom cult favorite, Rival Schools: United By Fate.

Beetlejuice review

Posted : 4 years, 2 months ago on 19 February 2020 07:34

I never knew anyone who didn’t like the movie! Pretty sure everyone loved Beetlejuice when they were growing up. I sure as hell did! This movie has all I could ask for! Great acting, funny humor, a great horror themed atmosphere and one hell of a performance from Michael Keaton. Do you think this review is qualified?

A very good movie

Posted : 7 years, 5 months ago on 9 November 2016 11:22

I already saw this movie but since it was such a long ago, I was really eager to check it out again. Well, even after all these years, it is still a really awesome flick. Sure, it might not be Tim Burton's best directing effort but it is definitely his most fun movie to watch. Above all, his biggest masterstroke was Beetlejuice himself. Indeed, he is such a great character, not really bad, not really good, just plain weird and, after all these years, he is still one of best characters I have ever seen in a movie. It was seriously hands down the best peformance by Michael Keaton and I’m not surprised that it is Keaton’s favorite movie he made. Back then, Tim Burton didn't need a famous book or some other sources to come up with a new movie, he would just use his own imagination and the end-result was so much more interesting than what he delivers nowadays. It’s such a pity that the guy went from being one of the most original and interesting directors working in Hollywood to a rather boring one trick pony. Anyway, to conclude, I really loved this movie and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Tim Burton’s work.

Review of Beetlejuice

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 7 August 2014 06:45

Bearing in mind that I have not yet seen all of director Tim Burton's films, I personally think Beetlejuice might be his very strangest effort. This is made even stranger, considering how absurdly normal the first 10ish minutes are. But that's as long as things remain familiar. After that, the film is turned on its head, and never looks back. It's a wacky, crazy ride, but it's absolutely worth taking.

A young couple - Barbara and Adam - are quietly enjoying their vacation in a house in the country, when they suddenly perish in an unfortunate car accident. And yet, they return home, possibly unharmed. That is, until they find a book they don't recall owning: Handbook for the Recently Deceased. It is at that moment when they discover that they are both dead. To make matters worse, an obnoxious family moves into the house, and Barbara and Adam want them gone. So in order to make them leave, they realize they must scare the family away. When their efforts prove fruitless, they turn to the nutty and unpredictable bio-exorcist known as Betelgeuse.

Beetlejuice is as inventive and unique as a film is likely to get. The concept is interesting, and while the execution leaves a bit to be desired, it does provide an effective balance of comedy and horror. The writing isn't always terribly strong - with plot points and dilemmas that seem to be made up on the spot in order for the film to keep moving - but the film gets by on the wacky atmosphere and creative visuals.

The title character, Betelgeuse, actually gets surprisingly little screen time. He is present for about 30 minutes of the 92 minute run-time, which is unexpected. However, the Betelgeuse character is wildly energetic, and some will find the character to be unbearable. The 30 minutes of time the character is allotted is just enough for him to have a significant presence in the film without becoming an nuisance. He remains an enjoyable aspect of the film, thanks to his limited screen time.

The cast of actors are all a delight to watch. Michael Keaton often gets singled out as the highlight, but I think Catherine O'Hara, Jeffery Jones, Glenn Shadix and Sylvia Sidney are just as enjoyable. Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder get the thankless job of portraying the normal characters (or at least what passes for normal in this film).

Danny Elfman's score is very much like the film: wild, zany, and very enjoyable. While it may be too high energy for some, few would deny its effectiveness and enthusiasm.

Beetlejuice is a wild romp that's highly imaginative and wickedly entertaining. While some will certainly hate this film, the right crowd will find the whole affair to be deliciously nutty. There's a slew of memorable scenes (the dinner scene in particular is properly laugh-out-loud funny), and trippy environment that the film creates is worth experiencing. Beetlejuice isn't for everyone, but whether you love it or hate it, one thing's for sure: You'll never see anything like it.

tim burton's 1988 hit is a near-perfect movie (if he had
remove the scene of beetlejuice eating a fly that this would of got 5 stars!) alec baldwin & geena davis are fine but michael keaton and winona ryder steal the movie
right from under them. over all really entertaining

A scary laugh...

Posted : 14 years, 1 month ago on 10 March 2010 02:41

Haha! What a scary laugh this turned out to be. Beetlejuice is a classic film that is often refered as a family film but I personally think it is far too scary for a family with young junior school children. For example, when Adam and Barbara go through the halls inside the house and see all of these dead people with missing heads, sewed arms etc that would freak a young child out but after all it depends on the age of the child. Beetlejuice is a very clumsy, silly, stupid story but it is so funny and so cool to not like about it. Beetlejuice is a classic that brought people's attention towards Tim Burton's gothic-like work. Edward Scissorhands was the crucial one but Beetlejuice is the start of it. Beetlejuice is a film that is pure magic at the same time. Beetlejuice is a film that can be refered as a black comedy but I just find it absolutely hilarious. It is one of those films that is very dark but is very imaginitive, scary and quite intense at times too. The make-up on all of the characters especially Beetlejuice literally blew me away.

Michael Keaton was the best actor for Beetlejuice. I would have never known that it was Keaton playing Beetlejuice. Even with the make-up, I can't even recognize him. Beetlejuice is someone/something that is inside a model neighbourhood who is dead but living. He is a hilarious person but in a very deep psychological way. Alec Baldwin and Genna Davis were both absolutely fantastic as Adam and Barbara Maitland. They were away but their car went into the water and they drowned inside the water. After realising that they are dead, they have to try and move the obnoxious owners of the house out of it. The young girl Lydia Deetz is a young gothic girl who discovers Adam and Barbara and she becomes close to them and she tries to help them but Beetlejuice starts causing problems for everybody. I liked Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz but obviously not as much as Kim in Edward Scissorhands.

I think back in the 80s nobody really knew it was typical Tim Burton because it was his first film of that kind but whereas nowadays you can easily say that is typical from the man because the man's a legend! What I really admire the most about Tim Burton is that some of the films he directs he just thinks of right inside his head like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. Tim Burton is a living God. Beetlejuice is another reason why Tim Burton is my biggest hero ever! He introduces all of the artistic design of the films he has created in the past. The art direction in Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street are all very similar because they are very dark. Also because of the dark natured stories that each of them have. Well, Edward Scissorhands is a family film but still dark when it comes to some settings.

Beetlejuice is Tim Burton's 9th best film after Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Ed Wood, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. I think this must be Keaton's best performance because he blew me away as Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice was the introduction to the dark style of Tim Burton. Every time I see this film, I laugh more and enjoy it more too.

He's guaranteed to put some life in your afterlife

Posted : 14 years, 9 months ago on 2 August 2009 06:53

I find it hard to believe there are people who haven't seen this movie. Winner of an Oscar and 6 other awards, this is THE ghost movie from director Tim Burton about two recently deceased people call upon the great Michael Keaton who plays an disrespectful, unlawful, and most of all funny "Bio-Exorcist". Upon recently realizing they're no longer with the living, Adam and Barbara are facing a serious problem; New tennants taking over the house they've lived in and loved for years. Knowing they both can not share the house with co-existance, the couple try anything to get rid of the family. With the help of "The Handbook For The Rencently Deceased" and their case worker Juno, the couple takes the drastic measure of scaring the family out of the house. After their failed attempt of a spook only got them more attention with goals of profit, the last straw is drawn and Beetlejuice is called upon. This movie like all other Tim Burton movies is a sheer treat for the eyes, filled with all kinds of spiritual beings, most of which can never leave my mind. Things conjured up in his imagination display almost perfectly and the world he creates after the wall gets drawn and even inside the model cemetery are completley convincing and themed beutifully! Please, to the people who haven't seen this, change that status from Want to Watch Watch ASAP!!

Betelgeuse: [after kicking down a model tree] Nice fucking model!

Beetlejuice (not Beetle Juice)

Posted : 16 years, 12 months ago on 12 May 2007 04:30

Ah...Geffen and Tim Burton. What a combination. Throw in the music of Danny Elfman AND Michael Keaton at what might possibly be his finest (definitely his most memorable role!).....and you have one of the best movies out there.

Okay---this movie ALSO has Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Sylvia Sidney, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O'Hara (and Robert Goulet!), among others.

This movie came out in 1988, and Alec Baldwin is so young, it's hard to believe it's him in this film:)

I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it, and my enjoyment and appreciation of this movie definitely has not decreased over time.

The cast grouping is perfect. Michael Keaton's character (Beetlejuice, of course) isn't even the most bizarre character in the entire movie.

The dinner party scene is one of my favourite scenes in the entire movie (I don't like to include spoilers if it can be helped).

The movie isn't scary (except, perhaps, to a younger child). It is dark, funny, gross, and also contains some colourful language at times.
