A scary laugh...

Haha! What a scary laugh this turned out to be. Beetlejuice is a classic film that is often refered as a family film but I personally think it is far too scary for a family with young junior school children. For example, when Adam and Barbara go through the halls inside the house and see all of these dead people with missing heads, sewed arms etc that would freak a young child out but after all it depends on the age of the child. Beetlejuice is a very clumsy, silly, stupid story but it is so funny and so cool to not like about it. Beetlejuice is a classic that brought people's attention towards Tim Burton's gothic-like work. Edward Scissorhands was the crucial one but Beetlejuice is the start of it. Beetlejuice is a film that is pure magic at the same time. Beetlejuice is a film that can be refered as a black comedy but I just find it absolutely hilarious. It is one of those films that is very dark but is very imaginitive, scary and quite intense at times too. The make-up on all of the characters especially Beetlejuice literally blew me away.

Michael Keaton was the best actor for Beetlejuice. I would have never known that it was Keaton playing Beetlejuice. Even with the make-up, I can't even recognize him. Beetlejuice is someone/something that is inside a model neighbourhood who is dead but living. He is a hilarious person but in a very deep psychological way. Alec Baldwin and Genna Davis were both absolutely fantastic as Adam and Barbara Maitland. They were away but their car went into the water and they drowned inside the water. After realising that they are dead, they have to try and move the obnoxious owners of the house out of it. The young girl Lydia Deetz is a young gothic girl who discovers Adam and Barbara and she becomes close to them and she tries to help them but Beetlejuice starts causing problems for everybody. I liked Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz but obviously not as much as Kim in Edward Scissorhands.

I think back in the 80s nobody really knew it was typical Tim Burton because it was his first film of that kind but whereas nowadays you can easily say that is typical from the man because the man's a legend! What I really admire the most about Tim Burton is that some of the films he directs he just thinks of right inside his head like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. Tim Burton is a living God. Beetlejuice is another reason why Tim Burton is my biggest hero ever! He introduces all of the artistic design of the films he has created in the past. The art direction in Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street are all very similar because they are very dark. Also because of the dark natured stories that each of them have. Well, Edward Scissorhands is a family film but still dark when it comes to some settings.

Beetlejuice is Tim Burton's 9th best film after Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Ed Wood, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. I think this must be Keaton's best performance because he blew me away as Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice was the introduction to the dark style of Tim Burton. Every time I see this film, I laugh more and enjoy it more too.
