Description: Brendan Coyle (born 2 December 1963) is a British actor of Irish and Scottish descent. He has garnered a wider audience on television, most recently as "Bates", the valet, in Downton Abbey. Early life and family Coyle was born in Corby, Northamptonshire, to an Irish father and Scottish mother who emigrated to Corby He reportedly holds dual British/Irish citizenship.
