On November 4, 1954, Audrey Hepburn visited the Scala Theatre in The Hague, Netherlands, where she was honored as the first female honorary member of Scala. During this memorable European trip, just months after winning her Academy Award for Roman Holiday, she was presented with the prestigious Golden Cross award (Gouden Kruis van Verdienste) for raising funds for the Association Military War Victims (Bond van Militaire Oorlogsslachtoffers).

Paired with a black sweater, Audrey was wearing her lace Roman Holiday dress which had been altered by Givenchy for the Academy Awards ceremony in March 1954.
