•Hattie McDaniel and her third husband, James Lloyd Crawford, are photographed on their wedding day at a chapel in Tucson, Arizona, 1941. ❤️

In 1940, McDaniel had recently made history after winning an Academy Award for best supporting actress in, “Gone With the Wind,” when she was introduced to James Lloyd Crawford, a real estate agent who she met through a friend.

After losing her first two husbands to tragic accidents, McDaniel was hoping that Crawford would be the one and just a few months after their introduction, the two became engaged.

On March 21, 1941, the couple married at a small ceremony inside an Arizona chapel and following their nuptials, the newlyweds purchased a home together in California where they would remain for the rest of their marriage.

Over the coming years, the couple chose to keep their romance mostly secretive, only making a few select appearances at various events throughout the 1940s.

In 1945, McDaniel confided to gossip columnist, Hedda Hopper, that she was pregnant however, just a few months later, she received the tragic news that she had suffered a false pregnancy, forcing the actress into despair.

Following this, McDaniel and Crawford opted to separate with the couple divorcing soon afterward in late 1945.

Following the marriage, McDaniel went on to wed her final husband, Larry Williams, in 1949 however once they divorced in 1950, she chose to never remarry, living out the remainder of her life in California before passing away on October 26, 1952 at the young age of fifty-nine.

A massive funeral was held for McDaniel days later and would be attended by many close friends including famous actor and costar, James Cagney.

As of today, McDaniel is buried at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles.
