A little more than a month before, on June 21, 1962, in suite 261 of the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles, photographer Bert Stern is going to carry out what will undoubtedly be the most important photo session (or, at least, the most popular) of his career. Stern, whose camera had seen some of the most important women of the moment such as Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor, recently hired by Vogue, the publication commissioned a session with Marilyn Monroe, the first photographs of the diva for a magazine of the characteristics of Vogue in whose pages appeared models of a profile very different from that of the voluptuous actress.
Those photos were baptized as "The last sitting" (The last session) because it is considered that they were the last photos that were made of him before his death. Bert Stern took 2,571 images that would change his career. She wore a Dior New York dress, which highlighted the paleness of the actress, and in which we see a star with little makeup and hardly any accessories, wanting to show off her intimacy, her nudity. Some of them appeared in the September 1962 issue of Vogue, weeks after her death. It would be the first time (and the last) that Monroe appeared on the pages of such a prestigious publication.
