James Last, real name Hans Last, born April 17, 1929 in Bremen and died June 9, 2015 in Palm Beach, Florida, was a German composer and conductor. His style is representative of easy listening, a form of catchy music intended for the general public.

James Last adopts a mainly instrumental musical style, often swinging and conducive to dance, very popular during the 1960s and 1970s, while keeping the aspect of light music and entertainment, often highlighted by two trumpets, a incisive bass accompanied by choirs and drums, like the orchestras of Bert Kaempfert, Herb Alpert or Roberto Delgado.

Many variety hits and almost all genres of traditional and folk music from many countries, such as Austria, Mexico, Ireland, Western music or Russia, will be approached and taken up by his orchestra, reinforced by the rhythm of a modernized accompaniment.

Polkas, especially in his "Polka Party" series and Viennese waltzes will also be honored in a catchy style. Solo instruments will also be featured in his "Instrument ร  Gogo" series, such as trumpet, saxophone, Hammond organ, electric guitar, etc.

A second style will mainly be approached in a much more romantic way, this time highlighting the violins, resuming with a touch slightly modernized by the addition of bass and drums, several classical melodies and Christmas tunes.

He will also cover the famous "Orange Blossom Special" from the Spotnicks.
He will make "Biscaya" a great success with a marvelous melody played by three accordions and an orchestra.

Several solo artists will join his orchestra for a few compositions, such as:

the Austrian citharist Alfons Bauer (de) in 1968,
the flautists of Pan Gheorghe Zamfir (The Solitary Shepherd) in 1971 and Horea Crishan (Paradise of the Birds) in 1982,
a Celtic folk group (In Ireland) in 1986,
flutist Berdien Stenberg (fiesta flute) in 1988 then
pianist Richard Clayderman in 1995.
In recent years, faced with increasingly rhythmic fashion, he devoted himself to disco and often converged on current rhythms.

It will be one of the orchestras whose microgroove discography, then CD (including vinyls or new) will be the most important in diversity, sold internationally.
