Audrey Hepburn, the film’s Eliza Doolittle, glided in with her bearded husband, Mel Ferrer, after a private dinner with relatives. Her entrance was greeted by cheers, shouts of “Hello, Audrey,” and the popping of multiple flashbulbs. She was so much the center of attention that Sybil Burton, former wife of Richard Burton, the actor, was able to slip by scores of photographers virtually unnoticed.
.
“Thank you all,” Miss Hepburn said, blowing kisses to her fans. “Thank you all.”

The Ferrers were preceded, followed and surrounded by a massive upper-echelon ragout of persons from the business, publishing, television, theater, social, diplomatic, literary and fashion worlds.

Joan Crawford was there in a diamond tiara, and the list included Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, Truman Capote, Samuel I. Newhouse, Cecil Beaton, Paul Anka, David Selznick and his wife, Jennifer Jones; the John R. Drexels 3d, Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Logan, Miss Pauline Trigere, the Maharajah of Jaipur, Patrick de Barentzen, who was freshly arrived from Rome, and Rex Harrison, the Prof. Henry Higgins of the film.
