An average movie

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick since I have a weak spot for Tom Hanks, I thought I might as well check it out. Basically, it was one of those typical Tom Hanks comedies he used to make at the beginning of his career, the kind of movies he used to make before showing up ‘Philadelphia’ and before becoming a famous dramatic actor. Nowadays, this flick is pretty much forgotten and it is mostly remembered as the movie during which Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson started their romance which is still going strong 30 years later. It says a lot about the quality of the movie itself. Basically, they wanted to make some kind of spoofs about the peace corps and even though the director Nicholas Meyer thought it was a great idea, I thought it was a rather lame concept. They also made some fun of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’ but those attempts were just as underwhelming as the rest. In its genre, it is definitely not the best thing Tom Hanks did back then when he was just starting up and you should watch it only if you are a big fan of his work.
