A good movie

Honestly, it is a rather obscure feature so I wasn’t sure what to expect from it but since I always had a weak spot for Neil Jordan’s work, I was quite eager to check it out. On top of that, the leads were played by Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore, some of the best actors around, so the whole thing definitely had some potential. Eventually, I guess it went by completely unnoticed because we have seen just too many similar movies in the past (the first that come to my mind would be the prestigious ‘Brief Encounter’) and, yet, I still had a weak spot for the whole thing. Indeed, even though the plot was nothing really original or ground-breaking, I thought that Fiennes and Moore both gave some fine performances and they both managed to make those characters quite compelling to behold. Concerning Neil Jordan, it must be one of his most straightforward and less challenging picture but I thought that most of what he did worked fine and it was just a nice watch. Anyway, to conclude, even though it might not be a masterpiece, I think it is a decent romantic feature and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
