An average movie

Back in 2001, Jake Gyllenhaal gave his breakthrough performance in ‘Donnie Darko’ but the same year, he showed up in this movie as well. It is pretty much forgotten nowadays but since I have a weak spot for Gyllenhaal , I thought I should give it a try. To be honest, the plotline was actually pretty lame and it could have been truly awful if it would have been handled by someone like Adam Sandler or the Farrelly brothers. Eventually, I thought it was surprisingly not bad all. Indeed, the whole thing was basically constantly balancing between quirky comedy and obnoxious mess but usually the good moments out weighted the overall lame aspects of the plot. Jake Gyllenhaal had the difficult aspect of making his character at the same time funny, whimsical and endearing and he partly succeeded. I mean, thanks to him, the whole thing was pretty entertaining but his character was also quite ridiculous and most of the movie was basically making fun of the guy which was rather disappointing in my opinion. Still, to conclude, even though this flick could have been really awful, it was actually not bad at all and I think it is even worth a look, especially if you are interested in Jake Gyllenhaal’s work.
