An average movie

To be honest, since this movie had been poorly received, I didn’t expect much from it but, since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well have check it out. Well, indeed, it turned out to pretty weak, I’m afraid. I mean, the story actually did sound interesting but the main issue was that their approach didn’t work at all. Above all, the damned thing was just completely tone-deaf. Sure, you could blame the casting of two famous comic actresses (Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish) but it seems that they never figured out if it should be some light romp or something rather gritty. Basically, every 2 mins, it seemed that either McCarthy or Haddish were going to pop-up some joke but, then, during the next 2 mins, there was someone getting violently killed on screen. I mean, there was even one of these housewives getting hooked up with a notorious psychopath who was back in town and who taught her how to chop off a body and how to get rid off it in the Hudson river. Eventually, neither McCarthy or Haddish was actually really funny here, in fact, they both delivered some rather weak performances but they were not helped by the fact that apparently nobody actually knew what kind of movie it was supposed to be. Concerning Elisabeth Moss, her character was just as half-baked as the two others were, however, it is obvious that she is a much better actress than her 2 colleagues and she was more convincing. It’s too bad because, exactly because McCarthy and Haddish were involved, they could have gone completely against type and deliver something really dark but it seems that nobody dared to make that move. Anyway, to conclude, even though it did have some potential, the end-result was actually rather disappointing and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
