An average movie

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Margot Robbie and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it was one of the more obscure projects involving Robbie during the past few years and, apparently, it didn't seem to make much waves when it was released. Eventually, I thought it was a decent watch but, to be honest, it wasn't really much more than that, I'm afraid. I mean, it was well made and Margot Robbie and Finn Cole both delivered some solid performances but I have probably seen too many similar movies in the past and they certainly didn't add anything really interesting or original to the genre to make this movie stand out from the crowd. A big mistake they made was also to have the story told from the point of view of the little sister who was narrating this story 20 years later. Indeed, it is such an ineffective gimmick because it did create a distance between the audience and the two main characters since someone else was telling their story. Obviously, Terrence Malick did something similar with 'Days of Heaven' which was obviously an inspiration for this movie but the big difference was that Malick was and still is actually a true artist who actually didn't care about the plot or the characters involved as he was chasing something else entirely different. Here, however, they did give some evocative touches but it never went beyond that so the end-result was too pedestrian, despite the efforts of the cast involved. Anyway, to conclude, even if the whole thing turned out to be rather forgettable, it was not bad though and I think it is worth a look, especially if you have a weak spot for Margot Robbie.
