Review of Megamind

A bit of a deconstruction of the superhero genre, which revolves more around the psychology and relationship of the characters rather than on the superpowers or some enemy that has to be defeated.

Megaming is the most explored character in this movie which faces issues which may be dark for a family movie like losing purpose in life, living through a lie afraid of being rejected, or wanting to relive an old life just to find just to discover that it doesn't exist anymore and cannot be relived.

Hal Stewart is an example of what would happen if you gave superpowers to a character that is a loser, which not surprisingly ends with him being still with the entitled attitude of a loser but now having super powers.

The greatest error and convenience in this movie is Megamind thinking that Hal Stewart was apt for being a superhero like Metro Man without never having much of a reason, which cannot be ignored because half the plot of the movie steams from that decision.

A character in which a few more minutes of development would have been very appreciated is Metro Man, which Megamind and Roxanne should at least confronted for neglecting egoistically his responsibility to save the city, even if that implies that half the city is destroyed and potentially hundreds of persons die in the process.

The movie also suffers with a common theme of making a character intelligent like Megamind, he is not most of the time neither intelligent or clever, the movie plays the opposite, the rest of characters are dumbed down to allow him to appear as intelligent.

Having all of that into account with a not a few instances where the jokes are being awkwardly delivered, I rate this movie as a 7/10.
