Now I remember when I heard the first notes of Falling.
However, I hadn't seen Twin Peaks at the time. But the relaxing, dreamy and even nostalgic sound of the piece elevated me to an infinite microcosm that I couldn't ignore.
The production of her dreampop songs are so unique... Even nowadays and after her debut, nothing on the genre sounds similar to this both beautiness and sadness that compiles the feelings I receive listening the gorgeous, dreamlike and ethereal soundscapes that Julee creates.
Soundscapes even more surreal than the series where it premiered.
And I really focus on sound and production because I can't find another example of jazzy dream pop that sounds remotely similar to this one. It's smooth and mesmerizing and hypnotic and totally ahead of its time and even of our time.
However, the song I Remember is an experiment of all the things I said before but poorly executed to sound avant-garde and it feels strange and non cohesive.
Anyway, Rockin' Back Inside My Heart, The Nightingale or Floating to name a few are great and these heavenly and mysterious textures I've described. The World Spins is one the best closing album songs ever made.
Every song here without that one I named feeds me with opposite feelings that somehow make an almost perfect balance.
My heart flows with Julee's spacey voice. Her voice is the reason this album stays strong after each comeback and all of this makes sense.
This surreal and bizarre lounge bar can't have listeners if there isn't a star to sing songs. A singer with a celestial voice that I can´t understand in which part of this reality comes from.
If you are a fan of David Lynch movies you will love it too. Because Julee, with her brief and humble discography, was not a one-hit artist.
Her music inspired the alternative scene to build something new.
Mix so many feelings in each song... Until it makes me cry. Again, with mixed feelings of sadness and happiness. Something that rarely happened to me with an artist.
Now she rests in peace. But in my fragile heart she will live forever. Her voice of hers will always guide me through the darkest and coldest days.
I will be floating into the most magical and beautiful night.
