An average movie

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for Reese Witherspoon, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, unfortunately, even though Witherspoon was as lovely as usual and was a perfect choice to play a gorgeous MILF, she was pretty much the only thing that did work in this movie, I'm afraid. First of all, the whole concept was just pretty weak. I mean, it seems that they tried to combine 2 separate storylines (a single mom starting a new life in Los Angeles and 3 young movie professionals struggling in Los Angeles) but this mix never worked. Seriously, it felt like watching an overlong pilot for an average TV sitcom. Another issue was that these 3 young men were all uniformly boring and uncharismatic and their own sub-plot was just so generic and predictable. Finally, the last thing that bothered me was the fact that my wife is 11 years older than me, we have been together for more than 15 years, so it is always neat when a movie tackles this kind of relationship. In this case, my wife also had 2 kids so there were many similarities. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the kind of movie during which such romantic relationship are always doomed to fail which was, once again, pretty disappointing. Anyway, to conclude, even if I have seen worse, the damned thing was still pretty weak and I don't think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you really like the genre.
