An average movie

To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Alicia Vikander and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even if the damned thing really had some potential, it turned out to be rather half-baked, I'mย  afraid. I think that the director Wash Westmoreland wanted to create some kind of Hitchcockian thriller set in Japan which did sound pretty cool but, unfortunately, the story was just rather weak. First of all, I think I have seen too many thrillers starting with a murder suspect being interrogated by the police with the rest of the story told in a flashback to show what happened before. Then, to cover everything from the characters to the plot in a thick cloud of mystery was just a rather lazy gimmick to make a rather tedious story more interesting than it actually was. At least, it was really neat that it was taking place in Japan. Above all, while everything else didn't really work, Alicia Vikander gave another really strong performance and she was once again quite spellbinding to behold. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch but it would be nice that Vikander finally gets some interesting material in the future.ย
