A very good movie

Back in 2017, 'War Machine' was announced as the first big movie produced by Netflix. Eventually, it turned out to be rather disappointing but I was still curious to see what David Michôd had done before and since this movie had a solid reputation, I was really eager to check it out. Well, it was definitely so much better than 'War Machine', that's for sure. First of all, they gave us an amazing introduction. Indeed, even though you might think that the main character was watching TV with his mother  asleep, it turned out she was dead for a while from an overdose and the guy was actually waiting for the paramedics to show up while watching some random TV game show. That was maybe the trickiest thing about this movie, the fact that the main character seemed rather dim-witted when it was not the case at all. The voice-over might also seem like an easy gimmick but I think it was an important addition to explain how these characters all lived in fear that something terrible might happen at any moment. Of course, you might argue that they got what they deserved but it seemed to be rather ruthless that the cops would execute one of them in the middle of the day just because they couldn't manage to build up a case against him. Finally, the cast was really strong, especially Ben Mendelsohn and Jacki Weaver. To conclude, even though it was not flawless, it was still a really strong crime drama and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
