A classic

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I was quite eager to check it out again. Well, even though many are some huge fans of this movie and would argue that it is superior to its predecessor. to be honest, I have never been completely sold by the damned thing. I mean, every time I watch it, I like it and I'm entertained throughout the whole duration but it never completey blows me away. I have to admit it though, it was visually impressive with a great mood from the beginning until the end and I also enjoyed the way they managed to bring back Ripley to this infected planet. Furthermore, Sigourney Weaver delivered a very strong performance and made Ellen Ripley a fascinating character to follow. So, what was my problem with the damned thing? Well, in my opinion, just like with all the other sequels in this franchise, it is basically a remake of the masterpiece made by Ridley Scott. Sure, they gave it a new look, some impressive action pieces and it felt more like an action flick this time around but, at the end, it basically followed the same plot. Furthermore, except for Ellen Ripley, all the characters were terribly stereotypical and barely interesting. Finally, I thing they tried to add too much humor and, as a result, Bill Paxton was rather cringe-inducing throughout the whole thing. Anyway, even though I don't think it is such a masterpiece, it is still a fine science-fiction picture and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
