A good movie

I already saw this movie but since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. I have to admit it, the first time I saw this movie, even though it had a really solid reputation, I didn't care at all for the damned thing and, back then, I thought it was actually pretty lame. Well, I'm glad I gave this movie a second chance and I wonder why I was so critical about it back then. I mean, to be honest, I still don't think it is really groundbreaking. Indeed, the plot is still too simplistic for my taste (eventually, the whole story takes place only over a couple of days) and the characters were barely developed after all. Another thing that also keeps bothering me is the fact that all the young girls involved (Sissy Spacek, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, P.J. Soles,…) were actually so much older than their characters. Still, it is actually a pretty good horror flick with some solid directing by Brian De Palma and, even though she was actually too old, Sissy Spacek did deliver a really solid performance here. ‘Carrie’ was also the first book published by Stephen King and also his first book adapted as a movie so its success, as a book and as a movie adaptation, was really important for his career. Eventually, almost 40 years later, they came up with a remake with Chloë Grace Moretz playing the title character but, even though it seemed to be promising, it turned out to be a commercial and critical flop. Coming back to our main feature,  to conclude,  I still don’t see what is so great about this story but I have to admit that it is a decent horror movie and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
