An average movie

Since I have always had a weak spot for Clint Eastwood, I was quite eager to check this flick. Apparently, it was another Western he made just a couple of years after the Dollar trilogy. Eventually, it turned out to be a decent watch but not much more than that, I'm afraid. I think the introduction was the best part. Indeed, right from the start,  you get to see the main character hanging for something he didn't commit and you wonder what might happen after that. I mean, it is not very often that you get to see Eastwood on the other side of the law, especially  in a Western, but,  unfortunately, he got of the hook fairly easily and the rest of the movie was rather typical and predictable. Clint Eastwood basically played his typical tough no-nonsense cowboy which was ok but the movie didn't have much else to offer. First of all, what was this whole about the hanging stuff? Were we supposed to blame it? It was never clear and never really interesting enough. Then, I thought that the running time was just too long which wasn't helped by a rather pedestrian obligatory romantic sub-plot. As a sidenote, it was pretty neat to see Dennis Hopper in a very small but rather memorable part. To conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent Western and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
