An average movie

After 6 long years, Alejandro Amenábar was finally coming back with a new directing effort and even though it was barely seen and it didn't get much love when it was released, I was still really eager to check it out. Well, eventually, it turned out to be unfortunately a massive disappointment and during the whole thing , I was wondering if it was really bad or simply rather weak. I mean, it's not that the directing or the acting were really bad, the main issue, in my opinion, is that it was rather poorly written. I mean,  the concept did have some potential but it was just really poorly developed. Seriously, right from the very first scene, it all felt seriously awkward and it is only at the 2nd half that it started to slightly take off but the damage was already done. Basically, you don't really get a proper introduction and instead you get to see a primary suspect coming in a police station without any explanation but, on the other hand, it took maybe 30 minutes before we finally get to see the alleged victim. Those were some poor narrative choices. Eventually, towards the end, you finally  get the usual expected twist and, even though this explanation was not bad and displayed the actual potential of this story, it became obvious that the makers pretty much fooled the viewers all along with some rather lame tricks and gimmicks. Anyway, to conclude, I think I'm being rather generous with my rating here but even though this movie was a huge step down for Alejandro Amenábar, I still think it is worth a look though, at least for its interesting concept.
