This video contains highlights from a full-length 2015 interview with Sarah Polley, focusing largely on her acclaimed personal documentary "Stories We Tell." It's one of a collection of twenty interviews with many of the leading lights in personal doc filmmaking. They were filmed and conducted by Doug Block, himself a renowned personal doc filmmaker, for his documentary "Getting Personal," about the art, craft, ethics and cultural impact of first-person storytelling.
The project has been on hold all these years while Block pursues a story based on his discovery of an anonymous love letter in a second-hand travel book, "Betty & Henri (& Me)." With the launching of his Substack newsletter "Getting Personal with Doug Block," he's brushing off the digital dust and releasing shortened versions of the twenty interviews.
