Former on-camera meteorologist Charlie Welsh gives us an inside look at John Hope's career, not only at TWC, but beginning when he served in the South Pacific in World War II. He then attended the University of Chicago and was at the U.S. Weather Bureau in Memphis. It wasn't until the early 1960s, however, that his career in tropical meteorology began. He helped NASA launch their manned spaceflight program. When the National Hurricane Center established it's headquarters in Miami, his career path changed again. Although he was due to retire after a long and successful career in 1982, new opportunities came and he became TWC's tropical weather and hurricane specialist. One of his best contributions was educating and preparing people for hurricanes.
