The Bidayuh are one of 27 indigenous groups in Borneo that are broadly categorized as Orang-Ulu or “remote people”. They typically live in longhouses decorated with painted murals and woodcarvings. They are known for their beadwork and music played with a guitar-like sape. These days the sapes are electric. It’s just one example of how orang ulu are straddling the traditional and modern worlds.
