While Sandra is often remembered for the films she made with James Darren, Troy Donahue and her husband and great love Bobby Darin, she was also teamed in her early days at Universal with fellow contract player John Saxon, and they made three films together - "The Restless Years", The Reluctant Debutante" (both 1958) and "Portrait In Black" (1960). The relative unavailability of these films (the exception being "Portrait" which was released on DVD a few years ago as part of a Lana Turner Double Feature), may account for the fact that Dee and Saxon are not remembered as a onscreen team. "The Restless Years" has never been released on DVD or video, while "The Reluctant Debutante" occasionally airs on TCM, the video cassette is extremely expensive to order from Amazon.com. From what I have seen, Sandra and John worked very well together, especially considering how young she was at the time. In fact, when she screen tested for the part in their first film together, she was required to kiss him and she had never kissed a boy before. Despite her inexperience, it came off so well that she was cast alongside him. When asked by her grandmother how she knew what to do, she responded, "I just looked at Johnny Saxon!" I don't blame her either, he was quite a hottie! When Sandy began to make public appearances again in the 90s, she and John costarred in the play "Love Letters". I'm sure he still thinks of her often, and it would be nice if their two other films would see official DVD releases. I used Doris Day's version of "Fly Me To The Moon" because it's so soft and romantic, and I couldn't overlook the fact that Sandra often referred to herself as " the junior Doris Day". I hope you like it!
