When Heavenly Sword originally launched for the PlayStation 3, critics and fans alike praised the game for its amazing motion capture and voice work, particularly that of the main heroine, Nariko. With Fringe star Anna Torv breathing life into the role, it's little wonder that the actress was brought back in to play the fiery warrior yet again, this time for the Heavenly Sword animated feature.

About a year into the PS3's cycle, Heavenly Sword screamed onto the scene as one of the new generation's earliest over-the-top action romps, featuring a legendary hero with fiery hair and a blade that has the ability to change history. While a proper sequel to Heavenly Sword never surfaced, Nariko continued to live on as a combatant in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and, now, through an animated feature film. The developers at Ninja Theory have a game called Hellblade coming out but, despite the name and a new heroine that looks a lot like Nariko's sidekick, Kai, the studio promises that the two games are unrelated.

Last year, it was announced that work was underway for a Heavenly Sword movie and that much of the original cast was being sought to help tell the game's tale a second time. Anna Torv was eager to become Nariko once more, as she reveals in her recent behind-the-scenes interview courtesy of Cinedigm. You can check out the footage in the exclusive video above, featuring interviews with the filmmakers and more. Torv discusses the difficulties of getting into a character via motion capture, as well as how acting for video games differs from acting for film.

For those of you who are looking forward to checking out the movie, you won't actually have to wait much longer, as Heavenly Sword releases on DVD and Blu-ray this coming Tuesday, Sept. 2. You'll be able to snag it for 15 bucks in the former format or $19.97 for the latter. Weighing in at 85 minutes in length, you'll be able to follow the quest for the titular weapon in a brand new way, promising lots of action and Nariko kicking the crud out of pretty much anyone silly enough to get in her way. For a better look at what you can expect, don't forget to take a gander at the movie trailer below. And, for more details, be sure to check out the movie's official website.
