Born in Carlow, Ireland, Saoirse is the Irish word for Freedom. Saoirse found fame in Joe Wright's Atonement, starring opposite Keira Knightly and James McEvoy. She went on to star in City Of Ember and followed this up playing Suzie Salmon in Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones - based on the novel by Alice Sebold. She is currently making The Way Back by director Peter Weir, which co-stars Mark Strong, Colin Farrell and Ed Harris. She is teaming up again with Joe Wright for his new movie Hannah .
