Van Heflin was an American theatre, radio and film actor best known for his roles in "Shane" (1953), "3:10 to Yuma" (1957), "Gunman's Walk" (1958), "Possessed" (1947), "Patterns" (1956), "Airport" (1970) and "Johnny Eager" (1942), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Heflin served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II as a combat cameraman in the Ninth Air Force in Europe and with the First Motion Picture Unit. He appeared in a training film, "Land and Live in the Jungle" (1944).
