True Awesomeness

I probably mentioned before how I'm not a big follower of the shows everyone likes, I usually don't end up liking them. My friend sent me home with Seasons 2 and 3 so I downloaded Season 1. I haven't stopped watching them since. At this point my only complaint is that practically everyone is some kind of supernatural being, I would much rather have more humans on the show.
I've always been interested in Supernatural things and this show does a great job of making the stories interesting enough that even those who don't like that kind of thing could still like the show. It's a lot like a soap opera with a lot more blood.
The real life storylines are interesting and I love the love triangles and heartbreaks that the people go through. I like that there are gay characters and it's not a big deal even though the show takes place in the conservative South. I like the wide variety of characters on the show and ttheir beliefs on Vampire/Human relations. It's not black and white, there are many shades of gray.
Sookie is adorable, I'm not going to lie. Her energy is amazing even though she had to grow on me. Still, I don't understand why EVERY single guy on the show wants her. Someone needs to hate the girl for God's sake. If I had to pick I think she should be with Alcide because Bill is boring, Eric's crazy and Sam is unstable (and better in his current storyline).
Lafayette is my favorite character, followed closely by Tara. They have great storylines although I'm not too sure about Lafayette now but I do want to know where they're going to go.
Also interesting is the maker/vampire dynamic and Kristen Bauer as Pam is amazing as Eric's protegee. I think her character would be the most fun to play. She's a little crazy, always tells it how it is and has kinky sex with every female that walks. Love it!
I can't wait to see where they go with this show and I will be watching closely. It's great to see a show that's a fan favorite actually live up to it's hype in my eyes.

Not Your Mama's Vampires

Posted : 14 years, 3 months ago on 24 January 2010 10:11

Not your typical vampires, this sizzling series are a wild ride.

Set in a small town in Louisiana, the main characters focus is on a homegrown waitress with a special talent (telepathy) and her sweet grandmother, her attractive yet unintelligent (horny) brother, a ruggedly handsome bar owner with a shape shifting secret , a sassy best friend with an abusive mother, a flamboyant sharp tongued cousin who is both a cook and a construction worker, a Civil War born vampire who falls in love with her who must also adhere to his own special vampire hierarchy, and a variety of small town โ€˜localsโ€™ which add flavor and humor.

The story is complicated and intriguing. It focuses on vampire/human relations in a world where vampires have announced their presence and the conflicts that arise between the groups. These changes are brought about because of the inventions of synthetic blood, โ€˜TRUE BLOODโ€ which makes the vampire able to survive without using humans for their food.

It makes for a world where things such as vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, and telepaths are a part of everyday life. The characters are likable and believable which makes it easy to suspend our reality. The scenery is beautiful, lush and romantic.

Based from author Charlaine Harrisโ€™s Sookie Stackhouse series, there is no shortage of steamy seduction scenes or flesh. It is a complicated, twisting plot which keeps the viewersโ€™ interest peaked and makes for real โ€˜Must SEEโ€™ TV!

Would not be recommended for younger viewers for the amount of sexuality and harsh language, and it is not for every viewer because of those factors. It is either โ€˜lovedโ€™ or โ€˜hatedโ€™ and after the very first episode, the viewer will know whether it is for them or not.

Both seasons of this series keep a strong momentum, neither lagging nor turning stagnant, because of the wonderful guidelines already created by the original author, Ms. Harris. Though not identical to the written series, those in charge of the script artfully pull the main themes from it which keep it fresh and perpetually unfolding. It knows where it is going and keeps a steady pace. The viewer trusts that it has a clear direction and focus which adds to the believability.

The second season is even more complicated and doesnโ€™t seem to focus as much on the sexual scenes as the first, which improves the flow of the plotline because more time is given to weaving the actual story development. There is no shortage of steamy scenes within this season either!

I would highly recommend this series if the viewer has an open mind, doesnโ€™t mind strong language, and isnโ€™t easily offended by nudity and strong sexuality. It is an addictive, refreshing series where vampires and other supernatural folk share human failings and joys. Well acted with a wonderful cast, they are a pleasure to watch and cheer for.

There really is no better show for those who adore the supernatural thrill ride offered by this adult series! Try a bite of True Blood, you won't regret it!
