An Angel for May (2002)

A boy named Tom is upset that his mother hopes to remarry, so he runs away. He doesn't get far and his dog leads him through a time portal in a farmhouse ruins. He lands in wartime England where he helps an orphan girl to avoid her tragic future as the homeless woman in his town. When he returns, he appreciates his family more.
