we'll finalize guidelines once we know who all the mods are.

I just gave you guys heads up to what my rough guidelines are for now, and we can expand or change them to suit all the mods, and of course, Tom's input.

One more thing I think I'll do is off-topic cleanup in some of the popular threads, like top X lists, upcoming games, custom game lists, custom Tv lists, and others such as that. Normally, one or two off-topic comments aren't a big deal, but if its a thread that gets tons of views and frequent updates, it might be best to trim the fat outta them.

is that cool?

I only did it to the Top [X] Lists in Movies section for now. check it out, let me know what you think.

oh, and i'm really tempted to add a new rule (and have already implemented it twice tonight)....

DON'T REVIVE DEAD USELESS 3 MONTH OLD THREADS OR I'LL MOVE THEM TO RANDOM CHAT... grrrrr

god. sorry, even I have my breaking point, but reviving a thread like this:
www.listal.com/groups/viewthread/4394/

which would've got locked or moved back then, assuming we had mods back then, well, yeah, i won't stand for quality and fresh gaming threads be bumped down coz threads like the one above get revived from the dead.

please, only revive/bump QUALITY threads.

this rule aint too harsh, is it? :)

"Nobody under 16 can post" is a rule that would solve all of your problems, Prelude ;).

There's a rule, a US-legislation, where anyone under 13 needs parent permission to sign up. I don't believe Listal asks this question at sign-up, because they dont need to follow US laws, but maybe it might filter out *some* of them from signing up?

But I do have a beef to pick with you, GA, as well as Antagonist, r6bk, and gemlil. It would help me out if you guys could cut back on the remarks you leave in Random Chat area. Yes, RC is a war zone and I dont plan on moderating it much unless I get complaints, but it doesnt help when all you evil brits (pun at Gemlil's movie thread on the topic) keep fanning the flames. I know you're not insulting them (directly) or shouting or swearing, but you guys ARE using big words on them in sarcastic manner, and most of them panic and retaliate with childish fits of rage - but I think the effect you guys are after - to make them leave - won't happen, and instead I'll have to go lock a bunch of threads that turn into flame wars and then their rage gets direction at the EVIL listal mods. :)

so yeah, if you could just cut back on comments in there til Tom decides which direction to take RC group, it would be appreciated.

I prefer 'The' Antagonist for future references or The A.

This is q uick reply as I'm at work! We're not here to make your job any easier Prelude, we are to provide a balance on things. Us Trollers, as we have been dubbed, are merely joshing with those who frequent RC. There is no way we can get rid of the troublemakers since IP Banning isn't as effective as *I* thought.

As for myself, everything I've done in RC lately is for a laugh because I'm having writer's block for reviews. There is no point writing anything if its not as fluent as the language you speak! Its fun to tease aswell.

You really shouldn't be here to make it harder, either. It's not as if it would hurt to stop spamming things that only serve to irritate the other posters.

I think its a cultural thing Prelude...we are awfully cutting over here, I blame Stephen Fry to be honest; he's upped the ante.

I understand what you are saying Prelude, and most of these kids can't work out when we're not insulting and when we are. I started tha 'Men' thread to begin a rolling satire with the elders...not to insult anyone (well Parody Dina, but that was it!).

I did worry about whether I was doing it too much the other day, then I realised I'd only acutally posted a tenth of the insulting messages that some of the Anime kids have to each other. It's very difficult for me to know what I can and cant say around them anymore though....thats why I keep getting back to the age thing. I've worked with children nearly all my adult life; but I'm used to the kids over here, who can take anything you throw at them like an Anderson shelter.

'Us Brits' have upped the ante with this rampage of posting and after months of nothing happening we've finally got a moderator employed to help clean things up. I think that's a great result.

I'm still not impressed with the notion of RC becoming a no mans land of spam, but until anyone says otherwise, we can surely post what we like there? It's a Catch 22! Plus I counted at least three of them deleting their accounts the other day :)

I love satire, and brit comedies are notorious for it - but it just flies right over those kids' heads. I mean, that one yesterday was genuinely worried you'd bomb the US and its not good because she lives there. ;)

I do see the humor in it (even the harsh critiques layed on by the other brits I mentioned) and I'm not gonna police you guys, because last time i checked, satire and critique are not the same as verbal and personal insults. Just asking to ease off a smidge if you notice its getting them too jacked up.

GA, RC is not gonna be permanently 'no man's land'. I just take directive from the big guy on here, and he suggested not to worry about Random Chat group for the time being til he figures out exactly which direction to take it (there was a mention of some sort of private groups).

actually, i did notice I haven't had to lock or delete as many threads the 2nd day, and hardly any so far today. Maybe with luck, those 3 deletions are the start of a good thing.

funny, when one particular thread was getting out of hand, I told them I may nominate GA to be a new mod and they all shut up.

I don't know what you've done to them (don't wanna know) but they fear you. lol

*release the hounds!*

Most of the time i dont think it is that we are trying to edge them into arguing with us, it is mainly that we are so frustrated with their rule breaking we speak out, and then an argument breaks out and we begin with the Brit Wit. We are probably the more vocal people because we want to be able to talk here more and use the Groups for what they are meant to be used.
