Mhm. Though I would recommend to be ready for a cliche' blood-scene, since there seems to be enough of them.
I like Johnny Depp, but I don't think he should've had the part... imo.
He was good at Edward Scissorhands, and I don't believe playing a part that would remind everyone of that would be good.
He's a good singer, though - and the morose-ness and macabre of the story was perfect for him. :D

my fwiend said dis was a musical. i hate musicals -_-

Yeah, it is a musical. I normally hate musicals too, but no way would I put off seeing Johnny Depp singing because I don't like stuff like High School Musical or Hairspray.
This is waaayy different, it's not some cute little musical where everyone is happy and singing.. this is a horror musical about murder and cannibalism.

The Lion King's pretty kickass as a musical. I've seen it a couple times on entirely different tours. I think the steriotype of the musical is all out of whack. Classic Greek drama was actually sung with masks and things, so the Oedipus trilogy is technically comprised of musicals. I don't know about Aristophanes's stuff though. Oh, I gotta read some more of his some time. I actually saw The Producers on tour a while before the movie was made.

Not all musicals are about people all happy and singing -_-;;
It's a medium like anything else and it's bound to have many many different types of genres. You just have to watch the genres you like.
I mean Tim Burton's also directed a couple of other musicals. He doesn't really seem like the "happy singing" musical type of person. @_@
Lion King was okay. I watched the Disney movies and all but I didn't quite get what was going on in the musical.
Well, I enjoyed High School Musical and Hairspray
( Kyaa! Zac Efron :D )
Though I can't stand Rent. I HATE RENT. I'm not quite sure why but aghsdofjsdoij I just can't stand that musical.

All I'm saying is that it will be a lot different to any musical that I have seen before. And as far as I know there are no other musicals with the same theme?

Well by no stretch of the imagination am I a musical buff but off the top of my head there was that one musical about a plant that ate people.
Sondheim, the guy who created the Sweeney Todd musical did some other things you can probably check out.
Then again if the Tim Burton aesthetic is your thing then you can see what else he did although I'm not sure if all of them are musicals.
I mean you had to at least see The Nightmare Before Christmas, right?

Did Tim Burton do Corpse Bride, or was that just a coincidence? I thought Depp was in it and all. I loved that movie.
Other than The Lion King (twice) and The Producers, I've seen Urine Town and Aida.

Yes. I believe so. Personally it didn't do it for me.
I've only seen the Producers as a movie. The recent remake (which I thought kinda sucked) and the one directed by Mel Brooks (which I thought was awesome).
The only other shows I've seen outside the occasional high school/college production were Miss Saigon, Les Mis (which I actually saw on Broadway ZOMG), Cats, Rent, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Lion King. Unless you count Disney on Ice. I was fascinated by that as a younger child for some apparent reason...

Hold up! I've been to The Globe before, so maybe I saw something there? Meh, you win.
There was one that lasted two whole days called The Count of Monte Cristo which was written by Alexandre Dumas himself. Actually that was a play, but it went for two days and attendants spent the night at the theater!

Yeah, Tim Burton did Corpse Bride. Notice the same trio for that in Sweeney Todd? Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Nice trio :) And I really liked Corpse Bride.. it was.. different. I really liked that.
What I meant by 'with the same theme' was another musical about killing people and using them as meat in pies. Anything you can come up with for that?

Jack and the Beanstalk might have a version or two. Must I admit defeat to every living specimen?
Deleted user

Well you can always watch Sweeney Todd (not the movie).
In Little Shop of Horrors the guy kills people to feed it to a plant. Does that count?
I'll go look around for any musicals about killing people and putting the subsequent bodies in meat pies. There has to be another one.

Jack and the Beanstalk might have a version or two.Apparently Sondheim did a musical which was a mash-up of a bunch of fairy tales including Jack and the Beanstalk. There might be eating and killing people there.

In the Jim Henson version of Jack and the Beanstalk the tiny (er, normal-sized) people cooked for the giant. I only watched Part One, but I don't think this is a stretch at all to say the meat pie bit's been done. You're going down Claudia.

Hah. I never said there wasn't one, I just wondered if there is...

Do you not like competition? I can fill the gutters with cement if you'd like.

You do need a lemon water spritzer. Or some soothing herbal tea product. You're stressing. Try relaxing on the couch with a delicious baked meat pie. Or perhaps eight of them. :)

Yes, I hate to admit you're right. Just got caught up in all of the hype... so exciting :D

I cant even w8 for this one... Someone give it to me now please! Hate Norway and the slow cinema showings ^^

Shaking in your shoes even after the Heath Ledger thing, Claudia?

Oh, actually the Heath Ledger thing stopped me thinking about Sweeney for the first time in a couple of months. I'm seeing it tonight, I can't wait, but with this whole Heath Ledger thing going on, I'm nowhere near as excited as I should be.
That might change when I walk into the cinema tonight though, hopefully..

I relate. Today I got my package of Crazy Bones. Now I've been doing plenty of things since I ordered, and for one thing I had a tune in my head when I entered the house and brought the box in. But after opening all nine boxes, with thirty-something packs in each, with 3-5 bones plus stickers and things, I'd been wiped clean. The f-cking was like an animal no longer.

I think seperation of forum posts through multiple pages would be great. I have to scroll so much over the slightest posts. Did you see this movie yet, topic starter?

Oh my... wow. I saw it. I finally saw it. After what has seemed like decades, I finally saw Sweeney Todd!
It was BRILLIANT! Bloody brilliant! I'm still caught up the whole hype of the movie, I loved it even more than I thought I would. It was dark, mysterious, humorous and bloody. Anyone who is reading this, I'm telling you.. go see it now!. 5 stars. 10/10. 100% amazing.

Is your review going to be the word awesome over and over again or are you going to tell us about the film?

Heh, oh no, I will try and persuade people to see it.. so yes, I will talk about the film as much as possible =D
Deleted user

Make sure you don't use something cheap like This film will bring you eternal salvation! or Yeah, it's tough. Just deal with it. This movie looks well enough.

Uhh.. you kind of commented it and voted for it before I had finished but erm... have a read of the finished review??
Deleted user

It still failed to persuade me to step inside a movie theater. DVD-ROMs on every shelf!

Try to get me to see Nanny McPhee. If you can do that, you'll have immortal power. I won't watch it despite the fact it's in the household in ROM form.

It has Colin Firth, that's reason enough for me :P
But uh... that movie kinda sucked anyway... @_@

i saw nanny mcphee lol

I usually like nanny movies. I saw the trailer for Nanny McPhee though and decided right off I'd seen the whole movie. My mom tried to convince me I hadn't, but the film's gaining dust anyhow.

How a Sweeney Todd thread has resulted in talking about Nanny McPhee, I have no clue.
