Movies that shouldnt be remade

We probably all had this conversation which movie(s) should not be remade. Well mine would be The Godfather even though I did recast it here www.listal.com/list/the-hardest-recastthe-godfather its just something that if you change it could ruin a lot of the movie So dont remake it. What are your takes

That's very debatable. Every movie could be remade and none should be. The theory behind a remake is not ruining a previous work, but make it better or update it for the audience of the present. Surely there are timeless classics that are in the heart of many people, but what those same people need to understand is that a remake (and a sequel since we're at it) does not ruin a previous work, it just adds an alternative version or creates new layers in that universe that can be appreciated for what it is.

The problem with remakes nowadays is that Hollywood is not remaking movies with that thought in mind. The way I see it, there's a lack of ideas in movie-making today (and an abuse of image and sound) and directors have been using popular titles to make money or to grab a name for themselves. Studios have been doing it so with new technology, leaving good directing and acting as secondary elements, when those should be primary.

The sad truth is that that's our fault, because that is what sells today, it's graphics and 3D, not good movie-making.

So I don't think there is a movie that should not be remade. I think there is a time and a place for everything as long as it's well done.
