Movie list missing items

« Prev12 Next »
Chuck Kahn 17 years ago at Apr 10 3:32 -
Number of items in my movie list:
- as of Jan 14 - 396 items
- as of Apr 01 - 479 items
- as of Apr 09 - 212 items (!)

Is the sudden drop today permanent or will those items be restored?

It's not just in Movies, but everywhere else in the site. Some places worse off than others.

We can only hope that they will be eventually restored.
Devious Phenomenon 17 years ago at Apr 10 3:35 -
SOmebody asked the same question, and it isnt just movies, my moveis went from 300 to 139, books from 140 to 20, all my music artists, all my authors and most of my TV shows were deleted as well, bringing my total Rated and Listed items to a 146 from a previous 859 or so

All my ratings from the past week disappeared, my bet is somebody hacked last night while the server went down... but Idk...
spiegel 17 years ago at Apr 10 3:46 -
Apparently I have rated 2 books, 1 movie, and 1 music artist. What in the world happened???
Devious Phenomenon 17 years ago at Apr 10 4:44 -
I finally got my movies finished... with a few extras that I missed... Now forMusic Artists... *sigh* it deleted all the tags I did yesterday too(basically the ones for music Artists)

My movies has dropped from over 1100 to about 760 and my books rated has dropped from over 200. I'm pissed because if I have to fix all that up well I'm screwed. I can't remember each movie, music artist, book, game and tv show I've rated. That's just not funny.

Well that's just stuffed up my day...

Ha, this is fun. My movies dropped from over 1400 titles to just 7 !!! I already had some 200-300 DVDs listed, now only 9. Glorious.

???!!!

oh, i see i'm not the only one with the problem. more than two thousand ratings which dropped to just under two hundred. to make things worse it's not just the ratings but also the mark if i own, watched/heard or want an item. it's interesting not every item disappeared, but a few magically left untouched.

I'll never reach my 2009 Total at this rate! I lost over 1000 Ratings on Movies alone. Anyone know exactly when this happened?
VIP
Bael 17 years ago at Apr 10 8:11 -
must have been at night CET. yesterday, around 11 p.m. CET i still had the ratings. it seems it's not the only strange phenomenon. look into the "about me"-box from this user: samzie.listal.com/
looks like some problem with the rendering.

I am missing a lot of items from my list, is there somewhere that Tom is explaining what has happened?

On my end everything I've added since august 2007(!) is gone. From 1100+ movies down to 232 :(

That actually looks more like a user thought this was myspace. They have a feature where you can add CSS script to customize the look of your profile. I don't think they realized that doesn't work here.

Unfortunately I can only restore data from 3 weeks ago :(

Prelude 17 years ago at Apr 10 12:07 -
what was lost from 3 weeks? just ratings, or lists/reviews too?

(breathes a sign of relief)

my review and list from yesterday are still here

so it seems just ratings are affected, and I didnt add much in past month (in terms of new items)

but this will be a stinger to some members, i'm sure

No just the items rated or items added not custom list items.

Sorry about this :(

It seems like even though the table was functioning normally (while being corrupt) but backups were extracting only a partial number of rows, I don't really understand how this has happened yet.
VIP
Bael 17 years ago at Apr 10 13:45 -
thx tom for at least restoring it partially. what's interesting: in the "global ratings" of items the missing ratings still exist as ghost ratings. any chance to purge this?

oh dear god, that means Naruto trilogy will re-take the top10 rated films at listal...
Harald 17 years ago at Apr 10 14:09 -
Hi!

Me and my wife (torosb) joined Listal 26 march. We have both rated 600+ items, but it is all gone now... Can this be restored?

*edit* Oh I might cry; I'm going to have to claw my way back up again!! I'm down over a thousand points after the restore...what losses are people reporting then? I'll feel better if Im not the only one. If Im going down, Im taking you with me...what exactly happened Tom? We're all friends here...

Unfortunately the last 3 week of data for lists has been lost, I am sorry and I know people will be annoyed, I tried to recover more data but it wasn't possible.

GemLil 17 years ago at Apr 10 14:31 -
These things happen; a thousand points is nothing compared to the 20,000 + of my points you managed to restore. Its more unfortunate for those of us who rely on ratings rather than photo uploads; but again you've done enough to get us back to the 3 week point. The shock got rid of my hangover at least.
Harald 17 years ago at Apr 10 14:37 -
oh.. thats too bad... strange thing is that I actually took a backup yesterday of my movies, just in case... :-) but I can't find any place for restoring it. Under import data, there is only an option for Delicious, IMDB and DVDprofiler. What do I have to do to import/restore my backup?

Prelude 17 years ago at Apr 10 14:42 -
oh you lucky dog, Harald! :)

not sure how to restore the backup though, maybe try the Delicious XML? (as the backup is an XML file?)

if not, PM Tom and i'm sure if you can upload him your backup, he can restore yours specifically.

That's good news, I will write a import function now so you upload the backup.

10/04/08 Lest We Forget.

How did you back up your stuff Harald?
Harald 17 years ago at Apr 10 15:02 -
Thanks Tom! I really appreciate it!

Prelude: Yes I know, I must be a lucky bastard :-)
Harald 17 years ago at Apr 10 15:05 -
GemLil: I just did a "export data" from the main page... Saved the movies- xml file to my computer. The file contains all the items, ratings and tags.
Chuck Kahn 17 years ago at Apr 10 15:11 -
Is there a way of editing the date added if I re-add lost items from the past three weeks? I like to see them in order...
Moderator
GemLil 17 years ago at Apr 10 15:13 -
Oh, thanks...thats really simple. I never realised that was even there before.

I think I might save all my reviews in word from now on...although I dont think there's a way to back up my custom lists.

If you used Excel for listing stuff. You wouldn't have a problem (H)

You can use this firefox extension to backup your custom lists (and i just may do that, for some of my lists... )

amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/

basically, it takes a 'snapshot' of any webpage, almost like saves it in perm-cache, and if you ever had to rebuild it, you have all the html code as well, all images, everything.
tartan_skirt 17 years ago at Apr 10 15:47 -
An interesting note: I added a film that I remember was missing and the tags were still there automatically, but hidden. When I added a tag back they all appeared.

Admin
Tom 17 years ago at Apr 10 16:21 -
Ah that makes sense since the tags table wasn't affected, that also means I can restore the list entry if tags have been entered for that item. Although date of entry and rating will be lost.

I think the main database is still retaining all the ratings/tags, but each user's account is missing all the info.

Big relief it's fixed now.

Question: Seems private notes on item pages, which I started adding a couple weeks ago have all vanished. Will they get restored, or do I have to start all over again?

LibraryThing allows you to import and export your list. Listal's simply sits there - it's basically stuck in Listal's server. All the hours you spend inputting your library is basically sucked down the drain if Listal suddenly disappears from the face of the earth. People tend to overlook the importance of import/export, and they shouldn't.

www.listal.com/settings

Howcome I never get email about site announcements? Occasions like this call for it. If you make these on instances of site updates maybe people will be reminded of their Listal accounts and come back to become addicts. I can see a lot of people missing the homepage announcement:
Important - Due to a database error we have lost ratings and added items for the last 3 weeks, reviews and custom lists are not affected, appologies to anyone who has lost data due to this.

...and becoming frustrated altogether with Listal. Gotta communicate here.

I am still missing a few items in my books. We're talking like three or four. Given the amount that was gone this morning, it is minor obviously. You might still have other members though that are missing a bunch if it is by a certain date.
Devious Phenomenon 17 years ago at Apr 10 18:45 -
Yes, All of my ratings within the past three weeks are gone, I checked(Except movies cuz last night I rerated them)

Also, I checked the Naruto shitlast night, the rating for them are like 6.8, apparently it seems as though a lot of Naruto raters got their naruto ratings deleted ^^. Me giving them a 1(Except the thrid movie which got a 4) certainly brought down the thing more, I doubt it is in the top rated(I hope its not!)

Well I've added export since that article and import will be coming today. Writing importers for other applications isn't always easy so I tend to avoid it, especially if they don't have ASIN or something like that, the dvd profiler import was difficult to write.
Devious Phenomenon 17 years ago at Apr 10 19:36 -
Actually, I am kinda glad this happened, it gave me the motivation I need to look through the sections more, I am lready back to my full points and I just finished TV shows and Movies, I still have books, authors, musics artists and games to fill in ^^
