Merging

Since video games tend to be merged now, is this something that's planned for DVDs at some point?

Yes the plan is to add a imdb number for each DVD if possible.

I'm not sure what you mean. Aren't IMDB numbers just for each film, not specific DVD releases?

It will would allow grouping together of DVDs from the same movie.

Or are you talking about exact duplicates of the same dvd release?
insektmute 15 years ago at May 6 3:54 -
No, the grouping. What I'm mostly interested in is whether the merging will be essentially how the games are currently merged. I've been pretty vocal in the past about not liking how that's been done, but I've dealt with it because I don't yet own many import games, and I seem to be the only user who cares about that kind of thing.

I own a lot of import DVDs though, and a similar system for DVDs, with equally poor version differentiation, would be something that would push me to stop using and contributing to that section of the site.

No it won't be like the games but I haven't thought about it that much as it will probably not be implemented for many months so I will get more feedback then.

Is there any particular reason why you don't like the games being merged? If there are add them to the new suggestions page so I can consider them for future updates: www.listal.com/suggestions/viewitem For example I know one reason is that you can't list multiple editions of the same game.

It's not that I'm against merging so much as *how* they've been merged thus far. Ideally, it would be set with a main entry for the game under its original title, with alternate titles, developer and publisher of the original release, and sub-listings for each individual release. Within the listing for each individual release would be specifics - the correct cover, UPC/EAN/JAN/etc. code for that release only, region info, developer/publisher, etc.

Anyway, I'll add some suggestions to the page.
