Listal’s 50 Movie Villains Who Would Love To See You Die

Elfflame 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 12 0:44 -
Backing Hans Gruber and Roy Batty, please. :)
vanious 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 12 1:46 -
I'll back Tommy De Vito.

I just can't see Roy as a villain. Roy is far too tragic to be hated. Really, Bladerunner is almost more about Roy than it is about Deckard. He was actually a central example in my last term paper for a third year university class. Yes, he has some very ruthless and villainous moments, but by the end you come to understand him as so much more. I'm not saying you couldn't call him a villain, I'm just saying I wouldn't.

Anyhow...

Mr. Mugatu from Zoolander

Description: Equal parts evil and crazy. Mugatu is the brilliant fashion designer with a love of poodles and exploitation. When Malaysia elects a new Prime Minister, Mugatu does what ever it takes to ensure he still has access to cheap, effective child labour.

Most notorious act: Brainwashing Derek Zoolander to kill the Malaysian Prime Minister.

The Gunslinger from Westworld

Description: An unstoppable machine programmed with the personality of a ruthless gunfighter from the wild west. When the gunslinger malfunctions, it overrides it primary function of never harming humans, and begins ruthlessly hunting down every last guest of Westworld. With aim and reflexes calculated to the microsecond, the Gunslinger makes survival an exercise in futility.

Most notorious act: Massacring guests of Westworld

Kevin from Sin City

Description: A silent monster. Kevin never says a word, nothing needs to be said that can't be seen in his blank reflective glasses and disturbing smile. Kevin is a murderer and a cannibal, harvesting the whores of Sin City and eating them pieces at a time, giving scraps to his pet.

Most notorious act: Making Lucille watch as he eats her hand.

I'm gonna have to back Roy Batty though. I agree he relents (but so does Darth Vader) but that can't erase the inhuman things he had done up to that point. Also, to note most of the guys on this list I have nominated or backed because I love them as a character. This list doesn't necessarily have to contain bad characters that you hate.

Kevin and Hans Gruber get my backing aswell.

Backing Kevin from Sin City.
vanious 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 12 16:33 -
Fair enough I suppose, but I still can't view Roy as a villain...he's just misunderstood or some excuss like that.

Azrael from Dogma

Description: Once an angel, Azrael was banished to the Pit for refusing to fight Lucifer. Now a demon, Azrael plots against both heaven and hell with his own sinister agenda. He lets no one stand in his way, be they angel, human, or descendant of Christ.

Most notorious act: Attempting to undo all existence

Gabriel from The Prophecy

Description: Trying to end a war waging in heaven, Gabriel ventures to earth to harvest the soul of a fierce general. Having been driven mad by his war, Gabriel has lost all regard for human life.

Most notorious act: Trying to kill a young girl in order to harvest the soul

Isn't Keyser Soze really an anti-hero? He's the central character in the whole movie.
Moderator
Seaworth 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 13 10:53 -
****SPOILER*****

The story is from Verbal Kint's POV so its his story, no matter how whacked and fictional it may be. Once again, as vanious said:

An anti-hero is someone who performs heroic acts but lacks the qualities of a hero. E.G. Frank Castle, Darkman, Wolverine, Mad Max.

Keyser Soze is therefore a villain for this story as he is alluded to as an ominous presence that the somewhat Anti-Hero Dean Keaton has to face-off against.

Agent Smith
Portrayed by Hugo Weaving.

The Matrix

The opposition to the One. He doesn't value human life and makes a mockery of individuality by cloning himself onto any template in his reach. Not a flutter of feeling or moment of mercy during his entire role. Weaving did the role justice.

Most Notorious Act: His ultimate goal was to see the end of the human race and the machines alike.

Don Logan
Portrayed by Ben Kingsley.

Sexy Beast

He is absolutely out of his mind! He goes to extreme lengths to get what he wants and does it in the most psychotic manner. Scary shit! Don is sent to Spain to retrieve expert safecracker Gal for a job back in London. Gal living the good life with his wife and close friends initially turns Don down. That doesn’t stop Don who unleashes a disturbing wave of attacks which change all their lives.

Kinglsey based the character on his grandmother, “A vile and extremely unpleasant woman.”

Most Notorious Act: Destroying the paradise Gal and the gang created in Spain.

King Cerdic
Portrayed by Stellan Skarsgård.

King Arthur

Barbaric and taciturn, the Saxon King has nothing on his mind but the domination of the British Isles. His plight is made even more of a challenge when he finally meets his match in Artorius, much to his joy. Based on Cerdic of Wessex, the characters ruthless approach to the invasion initially is without opposition. He believes that his people are superior and has no problem with wiping out anyone else.

Most Notorious Act: Killing everyone capable of holding a sword that he encounters on his invasion of Britain.

Vincent
Portrayed by Tom Cruise

Collateral

Not only did this performance fill me with admiration for the film and character, but it also reignited a respect for the Cruiser (on the big screen only!!!). I love villains that you can sympathise with the most, in Collateral, I don't think I'd really ever mind if Vincent ended up 'winning' and coming out on top when the credits roll. Sleek, sophisticated and intelligent, he is so used to suppressing his emotions that they are almost completely forgotten altogether.

Notorious act:Forcing an everyday taxi driver to witness one of his executions.

T-800
Portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger

The Terminator

When I was younger and I first watched this film, nothing scared me more than the prospect that the Terminator was out there. This indestructible killing machine, with every human characteristic except emotion, existed with a soul purpose to kill. Thank God it was only in a sci-fi film! From its name, right down to its interminable nature, this humanoid robot was a chilling adversary for the whole of mankind. He scared the life out of me much more than the threat of Mutually Assured Destruction!

Notorious act: Unsure of his real target, he engages his ruthless machine efficiency and scrolls through the phone book in order to kill every Sarah Connor listed in the directory.

Simon Phoenix
Portrayed by Wesley Snipes

Demolition Man

Outrageous villainy gold. Phoenix is a machine gun of one liners with comedy outfits to boot. Spends most of his time exchanging insults with his great adversary John Spartan, before going violence-happy and bringing mayhem to a town that knows nothing but peace.

Notorious act: Killing a bus load of thirty kidnapped hostages in order to frame John Spartan for their murder.

Commodus
Portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix

Gladiator

Failing miserably to live up to his father's expectations, Commodus circumvents this problem by killing his dear old dad in order to become Emperor. He is smarmy, despicable and detestable in every way. As well as killing his own pop and attempting to bed his own sister, he goes on to slay Maximus' entire family for no good reason. What a bastard!

Notorious act: Killing the family of his adversary.

I realize now that Patrick Bateman doesn't count, so I'm retracting that nomination. Here are two others to round out my three nominations.

Asami Yamazaki from Audition
Portrayed by Eihi Shiina

"Words create lies. Pain can be trusted."

Her outward appearance might suggest Asami is an quiet girl with a profound insight into life, but her vengeful rage, paranoia and desire to control the lives of others who seek to exploit her speak louder as the film plays out.

Most notorious act: After finding a photo of his deceased wife, Asami drugs Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) and proceeds to torture him using a few well-placed needles, a syringe and some piano wire.

Colonel Ives / F.W. Colqhoun from Ravenous
Portrayed by Robert Carlyle

"If you die first, I am definitely going to eat you, but the question is, if I die, what are you going to do? Bon appétit... Eat or die."

After killing and eating five of his traveling companions in the remote Sierra Nevada mountains, Colqhoun sets his sights on nearby Fort Spencer where he kills the soldiers one by one in order to feast upon their flesh.

Most notorious act: Calqhoun kills and then revives Colonel Hart (Jeffrey Jones) by feeding him the meat of his own soldiers. He also tries to get Captain John Boyd (Guy Pearce) in on the tasty action. After all, it is lonely being a cannibal!

My backings for Captain Vidal and Ms. Carmody still stand.

I'd also like to back:
Lee Woo-jin
Roy Batty
Kevin
Emperor Commodus

Thulsa Doom from Conan the Barbarian

Description: Warlord, king, cult leader. Thulsa Doom has lived out all these to their boring conclusion. Ravaging across the lands, massacring, pillaging and enslaving, he lives life at the expense of all around him.

Most notorious act: Commanding his followers to commit suicide.
Vix 16 years, 4 months ago at Dec 24 0:56 -
General Zod in Superman II
Portrayed by Terence Stamp

Description: Arrogant but a brilliant strategist hell bent on ruling Earth

Most Notorious Act: Remaking Mount Rushmore in his image

General Thade
Portrayed by Tim Roth.

Planet of the Apes (2001)

Now I'm not a big fan of Tim Roth but when I saw his portrayal of Thade, I was taken by surprise. First of all his mannerisms were perfect, it was simply like watching a chimpanzee take to the trees. It was so natural. Roth also managed to bring a sinister presence with his skulking around the room, his evil stare and not to mention his sinister intentions.

Thade was a violent and facist heir to the throne. If he was in power longer, there is no telling how many humans or sympathisers would have been slaughtered in the name of Apes everywhere!

Most Notorious Act: Slaughtering innocent humans and his own loyal soldiers to keep stories of the spaceman secret.
vanious 16 years, 3 months ago at Jan 13 0:43 -
Looking back over the nominations, I'd back Stansfield if Prelude would add the description and make it official. Otherwise, I figure I may as well add as many villains as I can come up with for final voting purposes. So without further adu...

Bishop of Aquila from Ladyhawke

Description: Jealous that the only woman he ever loved fell for another, the bishop turns to the dark forces and places a terrible curse on the lovers, keeping them forever apart. Now, in his wretched loneliness he keeps his subjects under harsh rule.

Most notorious act: placing a curse on Navarre and Isabeau

Dr. Josef Mengele from The Boys from Brazil

Description: Based on the historical Nazi doctor, infamous for performing gruesome experiments on Jews in the concentration camps. In this film Mengele is wrapped up in a twisted plot to breed a generation of Hitler Clones in order to restore the Third Reich.

Most notorious act: Continuing his horrible experiments from the Holocaust

Rico from Judge Dredd

Description: Dredd's former partner and genetic brother, Rico slipped into madness, becoming a cold blooded killer. When Dredd arrested him, he became set on getting revenge.

Most notorious act: Framing Dredd for murdering fellow judges.

Clarence Boddicker from Robocop

Description: A cruel minded crime boss, Boddicker delights in torturing and killing cops.

Most notorious act: Brutally murdering Alex Murphy

Unicron from The Transformers: The Movie (1986)

Description: A devourer of planets and a force of evil across the universe, Unicron will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Most notorious act: Enslaving Galvatron to destroy the Matrix and any Autobots who stand in his way.

Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat

Description: An evil sorcerer sent to destroy the fighters of Earth Realm, Shang Tsung feeds his lust for power by eating the souls of his victims.

Most notorious act: Stealing the soul of Lui Kang's brother in front of him, then using it to torture him.

Al Capone from The Untouchables (1987)

Description: The Crime lord of Chicago, Capone runs the liquor market during prohibition and thus controls most of the city. Keeping everyone under his thumb, Capone makes sure he remains the most powerful man in the city.

Most notorious act: Beating one of his associates to death with a baseball bat during dinner.

Sgt. Bob Barnes from Platoon

Description: Fierce and war-hardened, somewhere along the way Barnes ceased to be a soldier and became a murderer.

Most notorious act: Killing Sgt. Elias during a fire fight with the enemy.

Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China

Description: An ancient Chinese sorcerer, Lo Pan is a master of the dark arts. Ever since his body was banished by China's first emperor he has sought to sacrifice a green eyed woman to restore his flesh and rise to power once more.

Most notorious act: Kidnapping women to marry and then sacrifice.

Hertz from Shoot 'Em Up

Description: A sociopathic killer. Hertz is calculating, ruthless and always spouting terrible jokes. Working as a hired hit-man, he will kill anyone for the right price.

Most notorious act: Trying to kill a baby.

And if possible nominate one more...

T-1000
Portrayed by Robert Patrick

Most Notorious Act: Destroying parts of LA and nearly causing the extinction of the human race.

Suprised its taken 1 month for Magneto to get a nomination.

Played by Ian Mckellen he is a fantastic Villain and a bright spark in a disappointing X-Men Trilogy. His lines, his beliefs and his drive to succeed and conquer make him a villain to be reckoned with.

Most Ingenious escape plan: Drugging his prison guard with extra strong Iron tablets so that on close proximity Magneto could suck the metal out of him and use it to get out of Jail free.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Another good nomination is Han from Enter the Dragon

Played by Shih Kien

Han was once a Shaolin student, but he abandoned them and their moral code, abusing his skills to gain wealth and power. He owns an Island where he acts as a heroin and opium dealer, systematically building his customers' dependence on the drugs to ensure their continued business. He also runs a substantial prostitution ring on the island. Every 3 years he holds a martial arts tournament to recruit new talent to his henchmen.

Coolest Feature Due to the loss of one of his hands, he is able to replace his fake hand with deadly weapons of his choosing.

Biggest mistake: Inviting Bruce Lee to fight on his island, and engaging him in a fight whilst standing in a mirror maze.

I back:

Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs
The Penguin from Batman Returns
The T-800 from Terminator
Smith from The Matrix
Jacobim Mugatu from Zoolander
Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat
Kazuo Kiriyama from Battle Royale
Dr. Evil from Austin Powers

Harry
Portrayed by Ralph Fiennes.

In Bruges

The mob boss who sends his hitmen to Bruges after a contract gone wrong. Although he has a moral complex about who should be killed, he is willing to do what needs to be done to clear up the mess. He manages to inspire fear in his employees and so he has certain amount of control over them.

Ken, the older of the pair in Bruges, is physically shaken during a conversation with him over the phone. This shows that Harry has a reputation and we eventually see it in action.

Most Notorious Act: Hunting down the men who did all his dirty work.

The Kurgan
Portrayed by Clancy Brown.

Highlander

The Kurgan’s tribe were hostile, malicious and cruel so when he found out that he couldn’t die he naturally signed up for every conflict he came across! Raping, pillaging, murder are all on his endlessly evil resume. Every major war in Europe and parts of Asia, he managed to join in and cause as much chaos as he could and always sided with the more savage and immorally corrupt faction. The Kurgan eventually made it to modern day where he still searched for carnage as he tracked down other immortals.

Most Notorious Act: With his bloodthirst and his immortality, he has no doubt committed unforgiveable atrocities throughout the millennia.

General Woundwort
Voiced by Harry Andrews.

Watership Down

The facist and oppressive leader of the Efrafans is one of the most sinister looking lagomorphs ever conceived! He'll never be redeemable as he constantly resorts to violence whenever faced with a problem. Woundwort is renowned for his strategic prowess and never giving up when free will is being flaunted in his face.

He is even used in stories by mother rabbits to keep their kittens from running off!

Most Notorious Act: Creating his own facist regime where all rabbits live in fear of their own kind.

Hexxus
Voiced by Tim Curry.

FernGully: The Last Rainforest

The embodiment of car park lovers everywhere. Hexxus provides a sound and despicable nemesis for viewers as he hates everything that is natural. After being imprisoned in a tree for many centuries, he is released by modern man and manages to absorb grime and muck from their machines to become more powerful. He manipulates the humans to get what he wants which will eventually lead to extinction of all life.

Most Notorious Act: Using the Leveller to destroy the rainforest for the sheer pleasue he gets from watching nature perish.

Edgar
Portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio.

Men In Black

The cockroach in man's clothing. Although vastly a comedy portrayal as I laughed at almost all of his speaking scenes. Underneath lies a destructive menace that is selfish enough to force the extinction of another species just so his own can flourish. He manages to kill anyone who gets in his way and swallows everything else!

Most Notorious Act: Willing to start a galactic war to feed his family, all 78 million of them.

Sgt Andrew Scott
Portrayed by Dolph Lundgren.

Universal Soldier

The Vietnam war had some adverse effects on the soldiers who thought there. One such example is Andrew Scott who went utterly insane and killed a lot of innocent people. He was eventually quelled but brought back to life in modern day during the UniSol programme. He eventually regained his memories and restarted his murderous crusade without worrying about the consequences.

Most Notorious Act: Slaughtering his own comrades and an entire village during the closing hours of the Vietnamese War.

Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom
Portrayed by John Malkovich.

Con Air

Cyrus is immediately identified as a cunning and somewhat sadistic man. Along with a few of the other inmates, he manages to orchestrate an escape plan during their trip on the Jailbird. During this time, he manages to earn the respect of some of the scummiest people in the country and allows them to run riot while his plan falls into place.

Although he has some sense of morals, he is willing to give those up to get vengeance on those who have wronged him. He spent 25 years (out of 39) in prison and just doesn’t seem to want to change.

Most Notorious Act: “This ones done it all.”

I'd like to back: Magneto.
