I would like to see...

...the possibility of downloading lists in simple formats (like in rateyourmusic) and the ability to mass tag and mass rate the items the person has already rated. Also a possibility to choose how many items one can see on a page when browsing through person's ratings would be nice. And the ability to sort one's friends in a certain order (like years ago, in the older Listal).

Otherwise, the page looks better than before. The new search is the best idea and it works well and finds even the most obscure stuff, though it looks a bit ugly (where's the other parenthesis after the name?).

For example Stalker looks like this: Stalker (movie

The new editor is a great idea too and the new image gallery is clearer.

Good changes, though I'm not super-duper excited. Of course it's great that the site looks better on mobile, but personally I'd like to see more improvement on some basic site usability.

The improved search, for example, was for me the greatest change, because it was such a simple improvement but it was definitely needed to make the site more user-friendly.

For example, not having the ability to mass tag is seriously a failure: if a user one day decides to tag his or her items (like thousands of the films s/he has rated), going through all the films or albums or whatever one by one to get them tagged is way too much work.

It shouldn't be that hard. Mass tagging and mass rating are already used on many other sites.

I hope I don't sound ungrateful. These changes are already of course a great improvement and make Listal more usable too. I just think it needs other changes too and I think they should be added to the new version.

Interesting thoughts, but I am not sure I get the "mass tag" and "mass rating" request. I rate movies and people on individual merits, not by the thousands.
Besides, bulk rating would easily lead to abuses (rating just for points).

But then, maybe it's just me: probably I didn't understand what you actually meant. :)

The mass tagging should be limited to tagging the items one has already rated.

For example I rate every film I see with the decade it was made in, so I can keep track how many films I have seen from each decade.

I started doing the tagging after I had already rated 4000 films.

I had to do it individually with every film by opening the films in separate tabs and tagging them there.

It would have been a lot easier and faster to tag them with mass-tagging.

The mass-rating ability (for the films already seen) would be useful because I've pondered for a while that I would perhaps like to nullify my own ratings.

The ability to mass rate films I've already seen would make nullifying the ratings so much more easier. (I don't want to remove them from my watched films though, just nullify the scores.)

If I don't want to do it film by film which would, again, take a way too much time, the only way to do it faster is to close my account and begin anew. And that means that I still would have to mark the films I've already seen again and tag them again.

Or at least a separate ability to nullify the ratings would be fine, if not the ability to mass rate them.

(And yeah, someone could harvest points with mass rating, it's true. That's why I'm against the point system. The reward of making the site better should be a reward enough in itself. There's already way too many people using the site just for "points".)

Maybe points should not be awarded for mass tags and ratings.

As a side note, since you were talking about movie Decades, I'd love to have in my Collections the "by decade" filter that is available in Custom lists.

That kind of filter would be great.

Speaking of release dates and years, is something going to be done to the fact that arranging films according to their release dates isn't working properly?

The site is still using the US release dates which is a problem with many non-US films. For example Akira Kurosawa's Stray Dog is shown having its first release date in 1963 which certainly isn't right since the film came out in 1949. www.betalistal.com/movie/stray-dog

When films are sorted according to their release dates, it's this exact release date that Listal uses, not the year after the name of the film. So many non-US films get thrown all over the place.

I guess the site picks the release dates automatically from IMDB when films are added to the Listal database, so would it be possible to make it pick the first release date, instead of the US release date?

Listal movie dates are often unreliable and something should be done about it.
We already discussed some of the release date issues in
www.listal.com/topic/movie-release-date-error

As to Kurosawa's Stray Dog, seems to me it is correctly sorted (by world release year) as a 1949 movie when you add it to a list.

The "wrong" sorting (by US exact release date) only shows in Collections,
Thus you may happen to see something weird like this in your Collection:

...
Carry on Cruising (1962)
Stray Dog (1949)
Carry on Jack (1963)
...
