I'm trying to kickstart my aging memory and trying to remember all the games I played (and loved) while I was a kid, namely from the NES and Atari 2600 era.
If you have a large collection of those game, let me know and I'll check over your list for any that ring a bell.

added 3 more Atari 2600 that I remembered I played lots as a kid, but weren't listed in Listal:
Oink!, Chopper Command, and Frostbite.
ah, the good ol' Activision titles. I always liked them better than the Atari titles.

Not everything is in here and Atari 2600 games I loved the most were Crackpots and Berserk.
If you have a hardtime finding things, there is a massive Activision collection for Ps2, but no paddles.

there was one game I had for the Atari that I loved, but I forget the name. It was sort-of like Centipede, but very different gameplay. You were a worm (or caterpillar?) and the more you ate, the longer you became, and the trick was to not box yourself in and cross over your own tail.
Anyone remember that one?

Also, I had (and loved) 'Adventure' for Atari2600. I dont think its in database yet, so I'll have to add that one.

are Segas considered original games systems?
Prelude

Sega Master System and Mega Drive (Genesis), yeah, i'd consider those to be classics as well. Even Super Nintendo could be consider 'classics'.
But Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo64 are 'modern' in my eyes.

Sorry about that chief.
There is a new video game for the Sega Genesis, it is an RPG, an actual cartridge game.
dfg.the-underdogs.info/bp/purchase.htm
I know the game you speak of with the snake or whatever but I can not recall its name. There my have been more than one game that played like this at that. Maybe Snakebyte?
Everyone has Combat for Atari 2600 right? I have 6 of them around here somewhere. I think it came free with systems and I bought a couple of used ones to get a bulk of games at cheaper prices. Unfortunately my hookup broke. I have 2 of the older system models and 3 of the newer models but none of the newer ones worked the last I saw them.
The patent for the NES and SNES slipped and there is a new console called the FC Twin Console that plays both. I have recently seen a device that plays both NES and Sega Genesis games for about 60 bucks. I have the FC Twin Console, my NES died on me and my SNES has been acting funny. I had tried replacing the NES but they are dying. It is good to get something new that can play these, I just wish it looked like the old one. You do still have to try a couple of times to load though it is easy to do this straight up and down.
In Brazil the Master system was much more popular and they continued it for a long time. They have portable versions that actually broadcast on to tv rather than hookup. They now have some of those compilation games in a console.
Check out their new Portable Mega Drive:

Pitfall I love. I haven't played much of the second one, though it's somewhere in there.
Game system licenses die? That's just too cool. FC Twin, here I come..

There's a video game called Adventure? Is it an action / adventure platformer, or something? I'm checking that one out. You can't go wrong with a name like that.

Stampede was a good game, you were a cowboy trying to rope some cattle. Omne of the good things about the Activision anthology is the bonus commercials, there were some cowboys playing, real cheesy fun commercials that you don't get these days.
Here is the Stampede commercial:

Snappy, Seaquest for Atari has nothing to do with Seaquest the TV show. The TV show came out 10 years later, and the Atari game, as was common, didnt really have a plot. it was a submarine that show at shark and rescued divers. :)
Thilian, that 'adventure' game is one of the greatest RPG games ever made. I mean, you, the character, are reperesented as a square. the arrow that looks like an arrow - that's actually a sword. and the ][ thing, i still don't know - a bridge? a ladder? well, that's about all there is to that game. lol

Sounds like an adventure game ought to be.
The N64 Castlevanias aren't highly praised. The whole 3D revolution worked for some franchises, but then others you hear about owe some of their worst titles to the N64. The controls are crazy, I'll admit. And you lose too many calories going through the process of pushing buttons - they're just too sticky.
I forgot if ET was Atari. I heard about an Atari ET that caused the entire gaming manufacturing company to go out of business (reduced to simply producing games for other systems), but immediately afterward I heard a fellow debunk the very thought with an added insinuation, making anything uncertain.

From one of those old Sears catalogs.
I didn't know The Hunt for Red October was made into a game. They had a different market back then for what's put into the virtual world, I suppose.

i wish submarine games would make a comeback. I still remember 688 Attack Sub for DOS. It was actually quite fun and engaging, and full of suspense, once you figure out all the controls and sub tactics.

I heard about that ET game. I don't know if it made the entire company go out of business, but I do remember that they made entirely too many copies and could only sell around 5% of them. Pretty funny, actually. I think it was for Atari.
Submarine games were fun! I remember them...
N64...I was pretty young and my hands couldn't fit properly on it! They're still pretty small now, and I still can't play SSB on N64 right. I had Legend of Zelda : OOT. I think that's the only game I actually played on that system. Sorry to say, Nintendo fangirl I am, I passed over N64 for PS1 that generation.
NES games! Did you play Kid Icarus or Dragon Quest?

Saber, some claims that 1.5 million of the 4 million cartridges were sold, but its still a lot more than 5%. Also, the myth of Atari burying 5 million copies of the game in a landfill is disputed as well. Logically, it would've made sense to re-use the cartridge for other games.
here is some background info:

and this article claims the buried cartridges was true:
