If you have any tips/tricks to improve custom lists, post them here.

For example, many didn't know you could add HTTP links inside your 'Add Note', even to say, free downloads of the item in your list:
www.listal.com/list/charlie-chaplin-free-archiveorg

But I just discovered by adding the thumbnail version of an image hosted at listal (the one with the 160full path), you can really spice up and brighten up your list! neat!

man, it can really spice up the list, depending on space and size of images.

www.listal.com/list/super-mario-bros-series

but do try to link only to listal-hosted images (upload it first to title, than link it to the auto-generated thumbnail size image). if you link it to external site, the image may one day move/disappear.

Maybe I need to link every item on my lists to a picture of Scarlett Johansson to brighten them up. It's a possibility!

That should get votes! :)

Tom, the IMG SRC code for listal, is it a bastardized version, or am I just a suck at HTML coding? I can't get this image to go flush right and have text wrap around it nicely.

www.listal.com/list/15-most-influential-games-all

adding align="right" should do it, correct? but it seems to ignore that.

Oh gee. Even more thankless work to do on Listal.

Sarcasm aside, I didn't realize we could add comments to individual items on lists let alone pics and links. :O
*Gets to work immediately sprucing up lists.*

How many should get the 'lude treatement in my IMDB Top250 list? :)

and don't say ALL OF THEM or i'll kick you.

Just top 10 is fine, or go for top 20? Top 50? I dont want the page to load super slow, but man, does it look sharp with one screenshot each.

ALL OF THEM

I suppose the top ten would be fine enough. Any more and it'll get rather ridiculous. Unless you were to do them all of course.

yeah, especially since the list gets so dynamic further down the chart. I think top10 or top20 is good enough.

But for some of my other lists, i'm gonna make them all that way. I love the way it looks.

Hey this IS cool. I didn't realise you can add pics to notes (though I should've, cause I've added HTML weblinks)

Check this, you can also add pictures to the comments section to run by the side of the list:

I really liked your thumbnail image idea; and I've stolen it for my reviews:

gemmalil.listal.com/viewentry/99292

However, I dont know if this is ok? Should I just upload the images to the image section and leave the reviews as words?

Gemlil, love it! It makes the reviews so much more enjoyable by throwing in a few well placed screenshots. :)

jgnikkila, that reggae list has got to be the coolest mutha-f'n list on Listal! damn, i'm impressed.

Tom, we NEED a place to show off and collect up all the best custom lists. Kinda like Explore Lists section.

Oh thank you! Well now that its got the Big P seal of approval..I definately think it adds to the lists; its a good idea.

I find that screen shots help you jog your memory of the film, more than a cover/poster. Keep 'em coming.

Oh an Kila, he's right; that is a damn fine list. Must have taken ages.

Ok, improve the Bond 007 idea (only to the first entry, Dr. No): www.listal.com/list/james-bond-007

Added a link to the Book the movie is based on, and made the screenshot thumbnail re-directed to picture gallery of the film.

Here is sample how to achieve these effects:

(1962) James Bond's investigation of a missing colleague in Jamaica leads him to the island of the mysterious Dr. No and a scheme to end the US space program. <i>Based on <b><a href="www.listal.com/book/dr-no-ian-fleming">Ian Fleming's Dr. No.</a></i></b>

anyone else doing such eye candy to their lists?

Let's include the html somewhere on the list (for the listmaker to see only). Could help for people that don't have a clue.
Phil 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 31 17:13 -
I thought about it, but it's going to take forever to sort out the list I'm working on at the moment anyway - 1001 items on it once finished! A bit of subtle use of bold here and there is all you're getting from me right now!

I plan on adding those lengthy notes I'm renowned for, but until then check out this html madness. The damn vgmuseum.com domain doesn't allow you to link to their images, but the cartoon I added seems appropriate until I can go home and imageshack one of Mr. P's banners.

Giving Uber some idea to add movie links to his Tom Clancy book list. Just a rough draft, layout can be improved somehow, but I thought I'd post it here to give others an idea for spicing up their lists that may have cross-category entries (books made into movies, tv shows based on books, movies and all their DVD counterparts, etc...)

www.listal.com/list/check-this-out-uber

the trick is to use the 80pixel version of thumbnail that shows up when you search for the item in question.

p.s. does ANYONE know a way to force the image to the right margin? the html in listal edit box seems to ignore align="right". any other tricks, maybe with tables or CSS (not sure if those are allowed either).

www.listal.com/list/halflife-series

another example of what you can do with lists, namely game lists. By using well placed trailer and other images, you can make certain titles really stand out, such as Half-Life 2 in this list, and you can also reduce clutter by having some of the UK/PAL versions of games just linked, but not added to the list.

www.listal.com/list/donkey-kong-series

here's another tip for everyone. You can also reduce the lists a lot by linking up similar versions (like atari, commodore64, and intellivision) and also in cases such as Wii Virtual Console versions of classic games. Just another way to help keep certain lists more bearable (DK list was way too long. still might find a few ways to reduce it)

drawback is those items included in tiny linkable images within the other entries don't have the list show up on their page, but if you just do this for seldom used items, such as C64, Wii VC or other items, it shouldn't really matter.

Linking up consoles like this?

I'm always finding interesting stuff that Listal can do.

Ah, hell. No wonder ListMaker edited it.

On a side note, you can put any image type in lists, just like your profile or on the forum. This really opens the door up for creativity.

i wish we could add images & links to item descriptions
Deleted user
Deleted 17 years ago at Apr 11 3:30 -
The only html you seem to be able to do for item descriptions are italics. Bold effects disappear with the click of "Edit Item" and you can pretty well forget about blockquoting.

what's odd is that some of the default Amazon description have bold, have italic, and have many images. weird.

Tom, can you enable images and links to descriptions? it would be particularly helpful for adding a cover and link to a PAL version or vice versa. Sort of cross-link similar titles, without relying on custom lists.
