Best Horror Film of 2008?

pamela voorhees 15 years, 3 months ago at Jan 15 20:34 -
yes, i am wondering what in people's opinions was the best horror film of the year, more than one could be ok, i right now am going to list what i feel was the top horror film of 2008, maybe ill list two more later after this thread has started:
1.Frontier(s)- without a doubt the best one made this year. Directed by Xavier Gens (Hitman) about a group of people who hideout after a robbery; yet have no idea what is waiting for them.. encountering a very sick and sadistic family off of mainlands in France and ending up becoming victims of some of the most mouthwatering dismemberments and deaths. Not more than a few minutes go by where I didnt chringe just thinking about being in any of the charactures situations; good OR bad. Not sure if I reveiwed it but feel free to check if I did.
YOUR TURN.

Nothing has pleased me in a few years with this genre.

I myself haven't watched it yet but supposedly Let the Right One In is really good. Something about swedish vampires or something.

I've seen LET THE RIGHT ONE IN; it qualifies as one of the best of 2008. It's a coming of age story with carnage.

MARTYRS might qualify too. It's not an easy movie to sit through. I thought it was worth it, but other people...

Really? nothing has grabbed your attention in the past few years? ok, well what movies did you watch that disapointed you? May have been seeing the wrong film over the past couple years which "claim" to be horror. if not, i have reccomendations.

I watched 1408, The Mist, Shutter, M. Nights crap and other jazz I can't remember right now but I've pretty much given up. Normally I wait and wait and wait until the movie is on DVD and a friend says I'd like it. I'm more into the classics anyway.

I knew, JUST KNEW, eventually that listal & it's listing & tagging functions would come in handy eventually because I've just looked through my movies that I have watched this year that are tagged horror & 2008 and there's two that come up.

Outpost & Doomsday.

Of the two I would say that Doomsday is the most enjoyable, a mish mash of every other dystopian post-apocalypse movie that has gone before it, think Mad Max meets 28 days Later meets Escape From New York, and as an added bonus Rhona Mita is hot HOT HOT. Then there is Outpost a dark, seedy film featuring zombie Nazis that builds the suspense to almost unbearable levels.

Both films highly recommended from this end. Check 'em out.

yeah i've seen those, they were alright, but maybe they should try and make a much more scarier movie to scare the crap out of us, but i did see this one movie, it was called inside, it didn't scare me but it did make me feel disgusted on some part and disturbing. it was called INSIDE.

You moan that the two movies I mentioned didn't 'scare' you then you recommend a movie that didn't 'scare' you. Huh? ;-)

hm, 2008 was indeed a dry year for the horror genre. this year doesn't look too bright either, with high budget remakes coming up mostly (The Wolf Man, The Evil Dead etc.), which almost always suck in comparison to the original (The Ring, The Grudge, The Eye, Funny Games and many many more). well, nonetheless i hope the occasional gem will emerge this year too.

Good Call. Were Fucked. I'll get a camera and help save this genre as soon as I can afford it. To the people who said they havent seen a good flick this year, may i reccommend the movie Inside and the movie Mirrors; both good along with Frontier(s). was a dry year to agree with Bael, but these three in my mind kept me alive. Another film to reccommend, though not a scary as these was a film entitled Tokyo Gore Police, a brutal ultraviolent movie with a shit load of laughs.

i've heard that Inside and Frontier(s) are good, but to my shame i have to admit i didn't watch them yet. also those movies aren't from 2008, but from 2007 (like the recommended [REC]), so i don't know if you can count them as last years horror saving grace ;).

at least there was a positive trend in the last couple of years, the development of a strong and innovative scene in Europe (especially in France and Spain).
