A Random Project - Rough

While checking out some of the Listal suggestions
I saw tartan_skirt's idea for a random feature that would take you to a random page on Listal. I liked the idea so much that I figured I would check and see if there were any scripts that might do the same thing. I mean *someone* must have done something similar somewhere... right?
Well, I did find one and got it to work but it isn't very random right now because I haven't collected very many links to lists. So, this is a 'beta version'.
Currently in development:
creating a txt doc for individual Listal members
reducing master txt document to only list members want promoted
Here is the 'beta' link:

If you want to add your lists to the random link. Feel free to post something or contact me. Just submit your link as text and not a hyperlink:
www.listal.com/sample
www.listal.com/sample2
www.listal.com/sample3
Please exclude any "Evolution of (actor/director)" or "Best to Worst" lists.

Love it.

If you haven't already you can go ahead and add all the lists from my List Showcase on my profile to start with or, preferably, all of my lists besides ones that fall under categories we'll be excluding.
I'm not sure which lists of mine would be left out - the only reasons I can think any of them would be is because they're based on preference or too short. Anyways, what kinds of preference-based lists will we not include? I think something like my Giant Monster/Robot Movie Faves could actually prove quite helpful to people who'd otherwise have to feel their way through a gigantic sub-genre of lesser or of-an-acquired-taste films for potential gems.

I think I have all or almost all of your lists ready to add with my next update. I'll send you the full list. I think I only omitted one or two because they were too short (three items listed). I think the only other thing that I would exclude is anything that has the mature filter flag. I filter my feed so... don't see them...
I'll be going through and adding the top voted lists to add some balance.
Ah, but still also trying to find a quick way to check the list for double entries... which is surprisingly much easier to do in Unix :P

Just a quick note on a minor update. Thanks to a little helper monkey I have added quite a few more lists to the master document. Still, this is a back burner project for me and will just get updated on a whim. Unless there is more interest or a more interesting use for the link crops up.
For the most part lists are being added user by user. This should help make it easier to remove dead lists if a user deletes their account. Using a link checker to remove dead lists won't work because.... Listal returns an actual page that says that list is gone and most link checkers consider that to be a valid html document.

Thanks for adding my lists JT! This whole thing is a really interesting project that I think should go on the front page to introduce non-users to the site's capabilities (that is, unless opticmaps.com objects). You can go ahead and include my latest released list too: Metroidvanias in Review. I'll add to some of the shorter lists as time goes on but... For now the lists you've got should do.

Ah, 'opticmaps.com' is the site that I own and maintain. The primary purpose is to showcase the work of another artist it also gives me a geek area where I can test various projects... like this one. So no objections from me :)
I really wanted just a more interesting way to link back to Lisal from a blog or web site and this should do the trick. Now just need some spiffy graphic LOL

Yay! At last I got one of my own lists while clicking on it! Thanks again for this feature.

How about a script that makes a list of all the items you have in common with someone? It would really help me with compatibility search.
