Red Buttons was an American actor and comedian known for "The Longest Day" (1962), "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" (1969), "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972) and "Sayonara" (1957), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Buttons also served in the Special Services division of the United States Army Air Forces, appearing in the Army Air Forces' Broadway show "Winged Victory" (1943) as well as the film version directed by George Cukor.
