The Hopefulness/Esperanza (winner of the Kate Neal Kinley Playwriting Fellowship) workshops with Rising Circle Theatre Collective INKtank Lab- at Theatre Row off broadway, and Teatro Iati. La Migra Taco Truck selected for 2013 Theatre Masters production (Aspen,off broadway Theatre Row and New Theatre-FL). Latino Writers Lab with the National Association of Latin Independent Producers for her screenplay Death of the Doll, short film that screened at Boyle Heights Latina Independent Film Extravaganza in L.A. and Naked Angels Theatre Reading Series. She has received grants from The Ford Foundation, Manhattan Community Fund, Tropiculture Miami, Miami Dade Cultural Affairs, Florida Arts and The Artist Access Grant for her original writing/performance / residency development in playwriting. Nominated for United States Artist Award- Innovative Theatre Artist. In addition to writing, Almazán is also an accomplished actor. Some of her noted roles include the role of Maricela on NBC'S Law & Order: SVU and Rita Campos on USA Network's White Collar, a Cuban exile opposite Cristina Ricci in the ABC Pilot PAN AM, as well as Lady MacBeth in MacBeth, and Mrs. Papov in Chekov's The Bear. She has also performed in her self written, one person shows, Death of the Doll and her multi-media project as the Alpha Wolf where she plays a variety of female archetypes in She Wolves: Women in Sex, Death and Rebirth, NYC Fringe Festival. As a performance artist, she participates at social- political conferences and events to bring awareness to current female issues, including The National Women's Studies Conference, P.S. 122 and the Los Angeles Scope Arts conference. Her new solo show Porning the Planet: The De-Sensitization of a Nation directed by performance art legend Penny Arcade, received workshop productions at Dixon Place and Theatre 80 Howl Festival. Acting workshops including Susan Grace Cohen, Lee Michael Cohen, (Shakespeare with Peter Craze + Andy Goldberg + Ian Hersey), Laban, Growtowski, Movement and Directing. She has also trained in Butoh, Biomechanics, Suzuki, Improv, Clowning and Mask Work. Writing development workshops with Edward Albee, Theresa Rebeck, Charles Mee, David Mamet, Horton Foote, Julie Harris, Naomi Ilizuka, Jose Rivera, and Carmen Rivera. Edward Albee noted that Almazán "...sure can write." Has played a variety of characters in independent films, screened at Cannes, HBO NYLIFF and Urban World Festivals. She marks her feature film directorial debut with the upcoming mockumentary White Alligator. Almazán workshops original work with writers/performers, including as a facilitator with Art Spring organization to incarcerated women in prison. As a teaching artist with LEAP, she directs short plays with NYC Public school students off Broadway at New World Stages. With Manhattan Theatre Club and Educational Play Productions, she performs throughout NYC Schools. She is co-educational chair for Theatre East and founded the New Rites Arts Program and the Artistic director of La Lucha Arts Group, dedicated to Almazan's new works. At El Museo del Barrio, she played the lead in Escaping Juarez, Deviant Borders as the male Chamuco, (New World Theatre Mass.) and reading of The Mother f**ker with the Hat directed by Stephen Adly Guirgis. At the Louis O'Gerrits Theatre, her play Junkyard Food starring Terrell McCraney, was produced for the New Playwrights Festival. Performed original monologue for Hillary Clinton- Women's Forum. Almazán served as dramaturge and performed as Margaret in the multi-media production of Ur-Faust that toured to Hyterio Theatre in Athens, Greece. She is a proud member of The Dramatist Guild, SAG-AFTRA, League of Professional Theatre Women and The Playwrights' Center, NALIP, Chicago Dramatist Network, and the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors.
