I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Gene Hackman, I was quite eager to check it out. In fact, I had seen quite a few movies directed by Peter Hyams at the time and even though I always had a weak spot for his work, to be honest, most of them were actually pretty weak. However, even though this one is quite obscure, it was probably the most watchable movie he has made that I have seen so far. I mean, it was fairly generic and predictable but I thought it was actually rather well made and in fact quite entertaining. Indeed, Gene Hackman always delivered some solid performances while playing this kind of characters and he didn’t disappoint. Even though most of the action takes place on a train, Peter Hyams still managed to make it quite exciting but, unfortunately, like most of the work from this director, there is an obvious lack of ambition to produce something really remarkable. To conclude, even though it is nothing really amazing, I thought it was still a decent action thriller and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
