Before becoming a known figure in Hollywood, Lasse Hallstrom made some small intimate movies in his homeland, Sweden. This flick is a good example and probably his most internationally known. Actually, I’m pretty sure I saw this movie when I was very young and it was some movies we watched on a school trip. If I remember correctly, in my home town, there was this movie festival for children features and that’s how we ended up watching it. Honestly, I’m not sure if it is a good watch for young kids and I was sure really impressed by what I saw. Honestly, I had seriously no idea how to handle it, especially this scene when the young boy covers up the emerging breasts of his (girl)friend was something I barely could handle back then and it has actually seriously haunted me for many years. Anyway, I eventually re-watched ut about 20 years later and even though I can't say I thought it was really great, the story and the characters kept me interested until the end and there was some very good performances provided by the children involved. To conclude, even though I have a rather weird relationship with this movie, I still think it is pretty good and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Lasse Hallstrom’s work.
