To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and maybe I should re-watch it at some point. Personally, I always had a weak spot for romantic-comedies and this one is definitely a classic in this genre and, if I recall correctly, my wife really loved it. Anyway, back then when it was released, when Julia Roberts was the biggest female movie star in the world, it was a big box-office success but, to be honest, I wasn’t really blown away by the whole thing. I mean, sure, it was well made and fairly entertaining but it was just too generic and predictable for my taste to become really remarkable. I mean, when you think about it, the main character is actually pretty much a bitch and I couldn’t really root for her. In fact, Cameron Diaz, who was pretty much starting her career at her time, managed to make her character much sweeter and interesting than Julia Roberts. And of course, the always awesome Rupert Everett completely stole the show and it is thanks to this movie that he finally became noticed by the mainstream audience. To conclude, even though I’m not a huge fan, I have to admit that it is still a decent romantic-comedy and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
