March 1st, 1971…52 years ago… NBC aired the 2nd Columbo pilot, Ransom for a Dead Man- and as they say, the rest is history… The episode had great ratings- so the network decided to launch the series as part of the “NBC Mystery Movie” in the following fall, September of 1971. The 2nd pilot stars Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo, Lee Grant as Leslie Williams, and a newcomer, making her 2nd tv appearance (after an episode in Room 222 in November of 1970) 19 year old Patricia “Pattye” Mattick ”
