Description:
Many of Williams' albums in the years prior to this have felt strangely un-filmic, such as Angela's Ashes, Private Ryan and Seven Years In Tibet. After an extended concert suite arrangement of principal themes, the remainder plays repetitively. The Patriot is therefore musically a welcome collection of variety as opposed to variation. It's the 18th century, and Mel Gibson is waiving the American flag instead of Braveheart's Scottish colours. Clearly the composer--who regularly writes alternative national anthems for events such as the Olympics--has gelled well with the effortlessly jingoistic creators of Independence Day on this
